the Free Hypnosis Social Network
Hi guys.
What do you think of a 'study' which... well, shall I stop putting my opinions on it and let you see for yourselves?
Bearing in mind that the research has already been done for years as to the usefullness and efficacy of hypnotherapy in IBS, and it is already proven that hypnotherapy is very useful.
IBS is not life-limiting. Life-limiting means terminal; such as end stage lung/kidney/liver/heart disease. IBS can affect the quality of life dreadfully, but not the length of life.
NICE is not the UK health regulator. NICE is an independent organisation responsible for providing national guidance on promoting good health and preventing and treating ill health. Its advice is used to establish whether treatments are effective, and cost-effective; which is the point where they either recommend that the treatment or drug is available on the NHS or states a reason that it shouldn't be available on the NHS. NICE has no regulatory authority.
There is no need for a 'project ... to determine how effective treatment provided on the NHS would be. Especially as this would be effectively free therapy'. Effectively free?! Free at the point of delivery is the most important tenet of the NHS constitution.
Any research which is passed ethically is FREE to participants. Anyone who is paid to take part (other than reimbursed their expenses) or has to pay can have their answers exposed to bias. Charging anyone for their participation in a study is unethical and renders results invalid.
I think that this person (other than using the dodgiest analogue marking ever) is taking advantage of vulnerable people, abusing the name of the NHS, is abusing research methods... and I think that the name of hypnotherapy is further damaged by supposed 'research' which is just a method of getting paying customers to access their services.
I have been in contact with the author of that website, who states that ' I am sorry that you feel that this is a marketing ploy - it is far from that! As a former IBS patient myself I understand that hypnotherapy is possibly the very best way of dealing with the syndrome. I am working with several of my Local GP practises to see if the treatment we know works can be accelerated, 6 rather than the more rountine 12 sessions, AND if there is any diference in the results of those that pay something and those that get the treatment for free.'
I think it's fishier than a cod.

Hi Henxy
I'm not necessarily known for my subtlety or ability to keep quiet when I see stuff like that - anyway why waste words I'm paid for using them!!
Have started up an IBS Group here - will start some stuff next week - want to join us? I want the group to be about sharing ideas, support and also looking as to how to get the PCTs to start paying out for something that works rather than wasting it on pills that don't...I'll try and find out about our stakeholder forums...but Hampshire is one big PCT now and trying to find out how it works is a nightmare!!
I had IBS for about 18 years and my Doc told me to learn to live with it - then I decided to study hypnotherapy...the rest as they say...
"Hi guys" You are very un-PC here! ;-) "Hi guys and girls" ?
The guy is a con-man. Nothing more, nothing less.
Sadly, there are many of these 'hypno' cowboys/cowgirls around these days. Its all about making money ...
And a few of them are within this forum ... { Shock! Horror! Probe! }
