Hypnothoughts Free Publicity Teleseminar - Questions & Feedback Please!

We just finished up the inaugural event for the new Monthly Marketing & Practice Building Teleseminar/Webcast Series.

I had a blast, I hope you did too!

We ended up going almost an hour longer than planned, but it didn't seem like anyone minded.  And Kathleen is like the Energizer Bunny of PR.  She has a lot to offer and enjoys sharing it with others.

As I said during the event, I would create a discussion for everyone, so you can leave any feedback or questions.

Kathleen & I will check in and answer them over the next week or so.

Also, if you have any suggestions for topics related to marketing or practice building, please let me know and I will do my best to make sure it gets covered in a future MMPB Teleseminar.

One more thing... I really want to hear success stories from those of you who take the time to get this knowledge.  Because knowledge alone won't help your business grow.   I want to you to TAKE ACTION right away on what you learned today.

Cheers,

Craig Eubanks

Dear Craig and Kathleen,

This was superb, thank you so much! Very, very informative, reassuring and motivating. And thanks, too, for answering my question with such detail.

I now feel a lot more confident and have some pointers as to where to go to check out other press releases, who to send things to etc. Really like the idea of tailoring things to specific months/seasons (I guess World Asthma Day in May, World Athletics Day - for sports performance work - International Anti-Drugs Day etc would also be worth working to).

Many thanks indeed for a really generous, informative, well-put together, and enjoyable seminar! I am looking forward to the next one.
Fiona
Really great seminar. I learned alot.

I do have a question though. How soon before an event would you send out the press release?

I'm a stage hypnotist and I am a starting a regular comedy hypnosis night at a local Applebees, so it's a great opportunity to get some publicity.

John Cressman
Yes!

It was an excellent seminar. Lots of valuable information and it was absolutely worth my time to take part.

I feel well prepared to go apply this knowledge right away.

Thank you so much!

Jason
Question:

You briefly mentioned the use of images in a news release, but also said not to attach files to email submissions. If we have an image we want them to consider using, should we mention that in the initial communication?

Thanks!
What a truely, informative seminar!! Thank you so much Craig and Kathleen you both gave some great strategies for
preparing and sending out a press release that comes across newsworthy and professional.
What came across loudly for me is that there are so many publicity possibilities..
Once again, thank you so much Craig, Kathleen and Scott for bringing ideas and strategies to help others to succeed!!
Let the magic begin..
Christine
For those of us who could not attend, is there a recording?
Roger
Thank you Kathleen, Craig and Scott. This is a wonderful site and this new feature is precious. I knew how to write a press release but I learned so much valuable information about strategy and the what not to do's. I've participated in teleseminars before that were so tedious, filled with "chat and joking". This was so much more professional and covered lots of material making it time well spent. I can't wait for the next one. THANK YOU AGAIN!
Hi John,

Great question!

Your timing depends on the deadlines of the media outlet. For example, if you're sending a notice to a weekly newspaper whose deadline is 15 days prior to publication, I'd send the news release a month before your event, and I'd send a reminder a couple of days before their deadline, in case they have some blank space they need to fill.

If you're sending to a local TV news department, I'd send a couple of weeks before, a week before, and the day before. The day before, send a memo that lists just the bare facts about the event. This is called a "media advisory." It gives assignment editors the details they need to send a camera crew, photographer or a reporter to your event.

I didn't include a Media Advisory in the free PR kit I gave away to attendees, so I whipped up a free Media Advisory Template this morning and posted it on my blog.

Even if you didn't attend the teleseminar last night, you're welcome to download the free Media Advisory Template.

Enjoy!

Kathleen

Hi Jason,

Yes, at the end of your first news release or pitch letter, mention that you have professional-quality photographs or HD video B-roll available (B-roll is sort of generic background footage that a video editor can use to put together a video package.)

Remember, never email attachments to media outlets unless they've requested them in advance.

Craig did have the teleseminar recorded, and if the quality good, he said he will post the recording online for about a week.

Fiona, John, Jason, Charlene and Christine, thanks for the compliments. :)

As I mentioned (repeatedly) during the teleseminar, I LOVE PR and can talk about it for hours. ;) I'm really glad you found the information valuable. But remember, the info is worthless unless you use it. So get out there and start promoting yourselves!
