Hmm. I click the link and I get what appears to be the front page of the site, filled with headlines but no actual article being displayed. Did the link expire already?

Also, in reply to Roger Moore, I'd imagine that it'd be pretty easy to build in safeguards against the negative effects of gastric bands. When doing the "drug of choice" type of stuff, for example, the experience of being drunk or high is recreated, but the negative aspects are left out completely. So no hangovers, no withdrawal symptoms, etc. Or, in this specific case, no problems absorbing protein, etc.

I thought this was fascinating, although I would caution that if you were to consider using a process like this with a client take a careful history. In particular, find out if they ever had surgery before and were there any problems. The hypnotherapists in the article actually had simulated operating room sounds playing during the session. This could revivify an imprint and cause an abreaction if they had a previous negative experience at a hospital.

Hi Joshua,

Here is the article: http://bit.ly/soeRX

Hi James,

Yes It is fascinating, and I also agree that we need to be cautions, especially if anyone was going to use surgery room process like the one used in this article... Great advice.

Hi Roger,

My first thought was, what about dealing with the reasons people overeat? In general, hypnotic suggestions have to be repeated to continue to work for this kind of issue. Is that article from one of the UK national-enquirer type of papers? Isn't it pretty much a known fact that if you remove one habit without resolving the original cause (within reason) that something else, possibly worse, will take it's place, even if it can be accomplished?

What's wrong with making a more reasonable suggestion like "you will stop eating when you are no longer hungry, feeling full and satisfied, and your mind will turn to other things?"

Roger Moore, PhD said:
So if the mind believes, then what about the negative health issues often associated with gastric band? I'm thinking that to use this as a therapy one would have to be very specific with the subconscious mind to avoid health issues such as problems with protein absorption. Am I being paranoid here? I'd love to get everyone's thoughts on this.

John.

You sent this one to me a few days ago and I just now looked at it...I agree this would be a good visualization skill and it would work since it is very much the real thing since the mind can not recongize the difference between the real thing and make believe.

As a new member of Hypnothoughts I came across the posts about Gastric Band Hypnotherapy. I developed a method known as the Hypno-Band which now has nearly 100 Licensed Practitioners using the method to treat clients with a high BMI (body mass index), usually >30 which is classed as obese. Our practitioners are having great success with clients not only in initially losing weight but maintaining the weight loss. We use a combination of CBT and hypnotherapy to analyse the clients emotional and psychological reasons for over-eating before doing work to change behaviours. We then move on to taking the client through having the "virtual gastric band" fitted which has similar effects to an actual gastric band, without the side-effects. Having originated the method in Spain we now have Hypno-Band clinics in six countries including UK, USA, Canada and Australia. Our clients are also referred to nutritionists and given advice on exercise just as they would having experienced surgery. If anyone needs more info feel free to ask.

it's starting to feel like an advert.

There are so many ways of helping clients to lose weight which are
wholesome, integral, and not latching onto some news story.

I prefer to stick with what has been proven to work over a number of years,

I suspect the gastric band trick is a fashion,
based upon not solving the issues.
but upon what appears like a quick fix.

the gastric band is a metaphor for a band aid to stop a bleeding artery.

look back in five years, and see how many people
who have had a real gastric band fitted,
have actually solved their problems.

and how many people who have had 'virtual' gastric band fitted,
have reverted to their old paterns of overeating.

Sorry about that. I was offering info. Not an advert. There are so many ways of helping clients to lose weight which are

Why do you think we are latching onto a news story? I prefer to stick with what has been proven to work over a number of years,

And where and how did those methods begin? I suspect the gastric band trick is a fashion,
based upon not solving the issues.
but upon what appears like a quick fix.

Really? Why do you assume we don't deal with the issues when I clearly stated we do. the gastric band is a metaphor for a band aid to stop a bleeding artery.
Not at all.

Do you happen to know what the success rate for bariatric surgery is in UK?

You must know or have a lot of experience of our methods to be able to make such definite statements. Love and Hugs back! Love and hugs,

Thanks john,

clearly I know nothing.

I bow to your greater knowledge and experience.
remind me how long the gastric band has been used,
and what the long term (over five years) results have been.

I'm sorry you find the need to be so aggressive Fable. As I said my intention was to provide information about the methods on a thread that was already in existance. In fact gastric band hypnotherapy has been used for several years and as far as I am aware was first used by a Professor in the old Czechoslovakia. It has raised interest now because the media latched onto the work that I and others were doing. As with anything that is new or innovative it will of course attract scepticism and criticism and we happily deal with this. There are numerous methods out there for dealing with weight loss and they all had to start somewhere. Again as far as I am aware no "clinical" trials have been carried out on any of them. Most evidence in the field of hypnotherapy is anecdotal at best. We are, at the moment discussing carrying out "proper" clinical trials with the NHS with a view to using this method as an alternative or precursor to surgery. I totally agree that simply fitting a "virtual gastric band" is not enough which is why practitioners initially deal with the "issues."

Looking back at my previous posts, nowhere can I find a statement to say I had "greater knowledge or experience" nor did I imply you "knew nothing." I thought this forum would be constructive and open-minded. Clearly I was wrong on both counts.
With respect
John
