If You Could Come to My Meet-Up, What Topic Would You Choose

Like many hypnotists here, I run a Meet-Up once a month. For anyone who is unfamiliar, www.meetup.com is a cool way to get together a group of hypnotists and practice. BTW, I have no stake in meetup.com and receive no $ for the plug. :-)

Our meetup usually lasts for two hours and begins with a lecture on a topic and then we all practice the skills. It's great fun! In one recent meetup I lectured on the Dave Elman Induction and then everybody practiced the induction. Then we went across the street for beer (always a good way to finish!)

So... if you were a member of my meetup, what topic would you suggest? I asked my 44 members and got a few ideas, but I want to get more opinions and since there are thousands of hypnotists here, I'm asking!

Hi Sean,

I just started a local meetup myself here in the Fort Worth area. A good topic is always how inductions work.

What are the requirements and components of a good hypnosis induction. Then play mix and match with them.

John

Waking hypnosis is always a fun topic. Most hypnotherapy courses don't cover this in depth so its a great thing to practice.

Sensory acuity exercises are also fun as is covert anchoring.

hope you have fun. wish I was there!

Barry

Lucky those, who live near you and get to attend. If I were one of them...I imagine I'd want to be able to experience hypnosis is the deepest and most fulfilling way, an experiential learning of how our client should feel! It's often noted that hypnotists/hypnotherapists aren't always the best at engaging in the process themselves and what a gift that would be.

It makes me think of how travel agents, back in the day, used to enjoy "fam trips" (familiarization trips). These were free vacations, provided by venues hoping that the agents would book lots of clients after their own wonderful experience. Shouldn't we also take some "fam trips"?!

If you and the group are game, I'd say introduce topics featuring paranormal phenomena.

Yes, I would, if I only could, I surely would...

Great topic - Sean!

Discussions of hypothetical or case histories of clients with chronic pain, IBS, anxiety, etc. are of interest...

Hi Sean,

- Recognizing minimal trance cues/physiological signs of trance and practice doing so.

- Recognizing types of and managing abreaction.

- Post hypnotic suggestions.

-self hypnosis and the teaching of it

   gentle day,

You could address whats all over the stinkin news.... Teen and Adult Obesity up 43% from just 5 yrs ago. Get figures etc draw in those who want to loose and/or maintain.  People will flock to that not knowing what you have to offer but yet desperate to loose weight and make an awesome title...

I don't know, Maybe something like

Title:  Say No to the Yo-Yo

Sub title: Radical Weight Loss With Permanent Strategic Solutions

That would grab me for sure

Just an idea since everyone is desperate these days to "pill" away their problems including weight loss pills, 5 hr energy drinks, you name it.

I would even bring up as engaging questions:

1. Off top of your head in next 30 seconds write down as many diet promises, supplements, extreme claims, companies mailing processed food deeming it "healthy" etc (then after 30 sec. have them share.

2. Over the course of the previous 5 yrs, how many of these diets have you attempted without success? Any with lasting results? (there going to say no or else why would they be there to hear you)

3. In 30 sec everyone write down an approx amount of $ spent only in the last year attempting to loose weight..... (suggest they include Everything such as mail meals, gym memberships, personal trainers, diet pills, B-12 shots, infomercial products .... you get my point)

#3 sets them up to hear why your  weight loss program (whatever you want to call it) delivers unprecedented real-time results.

figuratively speaking, the average person IF HONEST with themselves and those around them will be obviously disgusted with wasted time, energy and resources including financial....

Then bring forth what you have to offer and YOUR price in comparison should engage and result in several new clients since I'm sure your cost for weight loss is WAY less than the average american spends on fad diets....

Anyway, I am sure you already thought about this but just thought I would chime in :)

These are some really great ideas!  Please keep them coming!! BTW Tonight's meet-up is at 7PM if you want to come! :-)

Sean, I am part of a group of hypnotists at the Jersey Shore who meet at my office once a month. Topics we've covered include challenging cases, inductions, weight loss, smoking and marketing ideas. One thing that we've found helpful is to vote at the end of the meeting as to what the next topic will be as it keeps it relevant.  Good luck! Jim

Sean I didn't realize you are SOO close to me wow!!! If I knew sooner I would have planned to come. I will check out meetup for sure. That would be awesome

I know one group the went through all the exercises in Bandler and Grinder's "Trance-formations" and really honed their skills in a lot of different areas.

Melissa
