I heard a comment from an hypnosis trainer who was saying that NLP is Hypnosis. I personally do not accept that, hypnosis and NLP have links and they over lap each other. Saying that they are also subjects in their own right.

The two subjects do compliment each other very well and are spoken about in the same discussion frequently, especially online.

NLP grew out of the 'behavioural modelling' activity of Grinder and Bandler in studying Virginia Satir, Fritz Perls, and Milton H Erickson. Now many people look at NLP and focus mainly on Milton Erickson, This is not good for NLP or Hypnosis. Not all NLP is about trance.

I was wondering what other peoples thoughts on this was.

There is at least one very useful concept that is purely NLP: the meta model.

NLP is exactaly what it says it is. It is operaton and change under the use of the subjective experience. He modeled many others as well they were just the most influenceable in the start of this field and so in a way it is, but it isn't. He once said that NLP is in its stage of infantcy and the possibilites are endless.

This is the way I see it but it's only thru my eyes
There are so many ways and variety of hypnosis some really looks different then nlp but some are nlp
As mach as I learn and practice them together as mach the different is getting blur
I like the nlp with deep trance but its fun to do it also in light trance when needed
nlp for me its to take my hypnosis to the next level
And the real proof they are one is this website that the rest together on the same web

I think that people think it is hypnosis because it is derive from Milton Erickson's indirect style of hypnosis.

I think of NLP as a cognitive therapy, useful without a trance state especially for people who are afraid of the "H" word. That being said, any time I use NLP with clients or as a client, a trance state usually occurs. If the client is comfortable I can complete an induction and reinforce the learnings from the NLP session, or we can keep the session strictly conscious.

Hello Nic,

I believe NLP Is Hypnosis and I believe NLP Is Not Hypnosis -- And I am totally correct in both beliefs depending on how I define hypnosis.

Yo - Yosef - You can not fool me - I know a "Ridicule Trance" when I read one:
"This is the way I see it but it's only thru my eyes" -- Oh, yeah -- What do you see when you look through Bandler's eyes?

Hi, Jackie - I believe that NLP and Cognitive therapies are both unacknowledged forms of "waking" hypnosis-

Hey, Paul -- You got a thing against throwing peanuts to monkeys?

Pssst - Jan -- I think the "meta model" is right out of General Semantics and I still like using it to help my clients

Conca--- You are getting ever so sleepy, but you are still awake, kind of like when you .....

As for me, I'm wondering if the Ancient Mystery concept of a "waking sleep" and our concept of a "trance state" are talking about slipping in and out of the same "process"

"Waking" hypnosis only seems like an oxymoron when we forget that "hypnosis" is a misnomer in the first place...

Michael - Bandler is a nice guy but he won't touch my eye,
o no I wouldn't dare

I like Yosef eye better for now

And old Jewish saying:
When you die and face g-d he won't ask why you haven’t be like Moses
He will ask you why you haven’t been … [in my case] Yosef.

Michael say:

"This is the way I see it but it's only thru my eyes" -- Oh, yeah -- What do you see when you look through Bandler's eyes?

I like your definition. Yes your definition definitely the easiest I have read so far. I love NLP work. I use it in one way or another with all my clients and on my own self.

Good luck. The scienitic method does not support many of the things that can be done with hypnosis. Hell, they still don't know why magnectics work and opinion versus verifiable opinions are much different. People can always come up with opinion tha…
