I have an interesting case coming up and am researching different approaches to the treatment. Details edited 21 March. Thank you to those who have already made suggestions they have been most appreciated.

A client was in a motor vehicle accident and suffers panic attacks while driving more than 15 years after the event.

I welcome treatment suggestions from anyone who has treated long term PTSD for a similar case.

Thanks
Chris

Regress to the cause and fix it. In other words, emotional regression to the initial event (which is most likely previous to the accident), find the players and what happenened, do the inner child work, change perception, do forgiveness work if it's called for--releasing anger, pain, fear and guilt--and then go to the initial event and notice that it was the feelings of the child in that initial conscious event, but the child no longer feels that way, then future pace and notice how in control he is, no longer controlled by the feelings and insecurities of the child he was. Standard stuff that Omni-grads are taught to do by Jerry Kein.
I might be wrong here, but how about going for something simple. You could take her feelings of panic and anxiety and find out where they are in her body. Find out if they have a color/shape/texture/etc. Make it more tangible, then have her take it out of her body and watch it transform into something else. Or even simple do a fast phobia cure on the original incident. I helped someone with a fear of 'drowning' the other day...took the fear away in like 15 minutes...maybe a little bit longer.
Ask them to let go of, in ways both known and unknown to them, anything and everything that they once ever held onto, and get them to nod their head yes while in trance, to this as you are thereby getting subconscious mind to agree with you. At any time they are starting to feel like an attack is coming on, their correct response is to deep breathe, slow and steady breaths and relax, remembering they are in a brand new and free, healthy chapter of their lives.
FYI - My book has several scripts that have beaten panic attacks for my clients in just one session.
Hi Chris, Antonio, et al,

First, You maybe wrong, Antonio - but You happen to be right on-- I like your take on helping this type of client -- I predict that you will be executing fast phobia "cures" in less than 5 minutes -- in no time at all...

Chris,

I recommend taking a two-pronged approach --

1. Desensitize her fears 2. Suggest that doing so will end the unwanted dreams...

FYI - I have discovered that I could simply have my clients get in touch with their most recent feelings of panic and use those to connect to the entire psychoneuro-matrix without any regression--

"In 2001 I had an auto accident in which I was trapped in my car, between a stopped van and a large truck speeding up behind me. I had nowhere to go, but had to sit and watch as the truck picked up speed and crashed into me. The impact ruptured one disc and caused damage to 7 more discs.

The pain was incredible; the fear of driving became a serious problem for daily life. I was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I avoided leaving the house and driving at certain times or in traffic. I was fearful behind the wheel, suffered anxiety attacks at the thought of leaving home. For two years the thought of being trapped and hit again increased to the point of panic attacks.

I knew the drugs the psychiatrist suggested were not the answer and that I had the answer inside myself. With Michael Ellner's NLP techniques for phobias, I was able to rid myself completely of the fear and anxiety of driving"

The technique I used to help can be found here:

Thanks Karen

I see it could be beneficial to regress to the initial panic state and fix that and the gestalt should realign with the changed learnings.

Thank you again - I love the food for thought.

Take care and keep safe healthy and happy.
Chris
Thanks Antonio

The fast phobia model and using a swish pattern to set the future direction is one string for the bow and in my plans.

The technique you mentioned of taking the feelings out is one that I know but had not considered in my initial thoughts and also leaves the possibility of replacing the holes with confidence and calmness.

Thanks for your time and thoughts - more food for thought. Most appreciated.

Take care and keep safe and healthy.
Chris
Thanks John for your generous reply.

You have given me a some useful tips which will apply to my work and that of other hypnotists, and we all need to remember that it is the many fine and subtle signals we receive that tell us how the client is accepting our suggestions.

On another note, thanks for all the wonderful videos you have made, I have thoroughly enjoyed all I have watched and you have opened my eyes to many possibilities and shown many things can be done effectively with speed that, when I started in hypnosis, I thought would take a long time to achieve.

Most appreciated that you gave me some of your time and shared your thoughts.

Take care and happy hypnotising.

Chris
Thanks Michael

More great suggestions and most appreciated.

Thanks for the link but I was unable to locate the technique when I visited but will look again.

All the best and take care
Chris
I would add, as a component of any of these approaches, another element as well.

There is some REASON that this person is hanging on to their fear.

THAT is what you have to find, I'd think; you know the event that occasioned it, but not why it's been kept. Ask them why they still need it, and if they don't need it, ask them what it would take for them to let it go.

I find that oftentimes the subject knows their own needs, albeit subconsciously, and can help YOU in repairs, simply by pointing you in the right direction FOR THEM - if you ask questions properly.

My only real issue with a lot of the "if this, do this" approaches to this sort of thing is that a cookie cutter only cuts cookies.

...People aren't cookies. There is no "One True Way," not for inductions, not for therapy; the only factor that counts is what will work for YOUR SUBJECT.

...Ask them if they know what that is; you might be surprised by the number of people who can proceed to tell you exactly what it is that they need from you.
Thanks Will

Your thoughts are much appreciated and the root of the problem will be the solution.
As it has been held onto for so long it will be interesting to see what gives this part such power. Something is working in her best interests in conflict with the whole and she consciously knows that and tomorrow I will allow my best questioning skills to enable her subconscious give us the answers.

Thank you so much for your time and thoughts, I really do appreciate the effort.

Take care and have a very healthy and happy week.
