Hello fellow colleagues,

I just received my latest invoice for my malpractice insurance. The cost keeps creeping up  every year. I'm wondering how many hypnotherapists carry malpractice insurance?

I started purchasing a policy  three years when I opened my practice. I'm considering dropping it this year. I would appreciate some feedback on the topic.

Thanks very much,

Michele Merrick

I would shop around for a better deal, but not drop insurance, unless you are also going to drop practicing.

Anyone who practices without appropriate insurance, is tempting fate.

Thank you Fable, I knew in my rational mind that was the correct answer . Do you have a name of an insurance carrier by chance that you would refer me to?

You can always look at an umbrella policy, but it may not cover acts of employment.

Dear Michelle,

After much extensive searching (nothing seemed to cover Hong Kong, where I am based), I found Nacora. All seems okay, so far, so good. Might be worth checking them out:

I hope this does not constitute advertising...I am not involved with them in any way except as a customer.

Michele,
There is no such thing as malpractice insurance for hypnotherapists because there is no set scope of practice. Most carry liability insurance that I am convinced will not actually cover any area of practice and is no more than slip and fall protection.

I see you are also an RN. You should have malpractice insurance for your nursing practice and that will likely cover you as well as any hypnosis liability policy.

Please note that I am not an Insurance agent or attorney and my opinion on these issues is only worth the price I charged you (0.00)
Please consult appropriate legal representation in these matters.

Thanks Dennis,

Not familiar with umbrella policy but will google it to get more information. Michele

Thanks Richard, My nursing medical malpractice does not cover hypnotherapy. You're right, I used the incorrect insurance terminology. It's a mental health counselors professional liability insurance coverage that I have. However,it does not cover slip and fall . It has more to do with errors and omissions that occur in a practice. This particular carrier has several different groups in this professional liability category.
