I gave the guy who painted my house some hypnotherapy on Friday as he has a bad stutter and was nervous about meeting his girlfriend's parents for the first time in Australia! I put him under using the Elman method and he was SO deep that he couldn't even count aloud from 100. His mouth was moving, but nothing was coming out!

(After chatting to my mate Reg Blackwood) I told him to think of a time that he felt confident, when his speech flowed freely and then got him to see what he saw, felt what he felt and to intensify his feelings. I then anchored this by getting him to pinch his thumb and finger together. I brought him out and we tested this, he said that he felt nervous, on a scale of 1-10, he was a 6. When his fired the trigger, he said that he now felt fine! I said SLEEP and he went straight back under, so I repeated the process and asked him to intensify all the wonderful feelings of confidence and freedom he felt and then re-affirmed the anchor, telling him again that this was his trigger to bring back these feelings of confidence.

I then gave him a really empowering speech (that my good friend John Cerbone helped me with) that really affirmed everything, it was actually very moving. I told him that he has now turned a corner, that we have flicked a switch, reset the thermostat in his mind and he is now free from stuttering, that his words would flow like beautiful running water and he wouldn't analyse or second guess his speech any more. That he was now powerful and in control, entering an amazing new chapter in his life...

When I woke him (after a good 3/4's of an hour) he was really emotional and very moved indeed, he could hardly speak and kept on saying "wow!!" He told me he had all sorts of emotional and personal thoughts running through his mind. He also told me that his 'special time' was back in 1993 when he had an amazing holiday in Spain, that it was the best time of his life, but he didn't want to go into details, as it was too personal for him.

I noticed his speech had actually improved and that when he stumbled across a word or two, his stutter was significantly reduced. He even said that he didn't feel the need to force his words out and that he wasn't bothered by it! I'm so thrilled as this was my very first attempt at using hypnosis for good as opposed to just demonstrating phenomena. I can't wait to see him again and to see how he feels now. What an amazing feeling!

Congratulations Darren! Sounds like it went really well!
Awesome Darren! Sounds like a real confidence booster for all concerned!

PS love the name dropping :-)
I was reading about stuttering, somewhere....
It was in one of my Erickson books I believe (?) or maybe it was in one of my NLP books - crud!! I will have to go look now.

Anyhooo...
It indicated that many people who stutter...may have had a traumatizing event happen and by reframing that event, help remove the need to stutter.
It could be as simple as seeing something, when they were a child, and someone told them to keep it a secret 'or else'. Or the child witnessed something that they internally thought they couldn't tell anyone. The child being so scared of saying something that it impaired their speech. I found it completely fascinating.

No real reason for my post... ~grin.
Just thought it was interesting information and something to think about.

~~D.
Cheers Ben.

I only "dropped" Reg and John as I wanted to give credit where credit was due, I wasn't schmoozing! I couldn't have done the session without their supprt and help.
