Hello Everyone,

I hope everyone is doing great today or tonight depending on where you are from. I got a client coming in to see me in a few days who wants to stop gambling. He claims it isn't too bad, but he would like to nip it in the butt before it has a chance to get stronger. He has tried to quit on his own, but whenever he get's bored he has the urge to start gambling. He mainly deals with machines that are in a few of the pool halls down here in Columbus.

I have never worked with this issue and was wondering if anyone could give me a hand here. I just don't have a clue on where to start with this issue. I don't really use scripts to much, but I do like to read them to give me a hint on where to go. So if anyone has any scripts or has worked with this problem before some advice would really be great. He is coming to see me Monday and I know hypnosis can help him out to a degree. So thank you in advance and look forward to your replies.

Thank You,
Joshua Houghton

I agree with Edward, that gambling should not be used, at that time it was my first experience and I did use it, but luckily, it did work for that specific case.

Thanks for sharing, Doreen
Gambling is a addiction and should be dealt as one so don't think it's any different. Just like drug and alcohol abuse it will take awhile, for it to take affect.
Hi Joshua:

Im wondering how it worked out with your gambling client? Ive had two clients this week that have a bad relationship with money: a sort of love/hate and do I deserve to hold on to it when I have it attitude. I gleaned this from the iintakes. In both cases they are not only gambling with money but their lives and lifestyle. So I would be very glad if you would share any insights you gained in helping gamblers.

Thanks Linda
Gambling with slot machines is a different duck than gambling with card or table games. In the former, the slot machine acts as a hypnotic tool to disassociate the gambler from awareness of everyday life (problems, stressors, etc.). In the latter, the sense of human connection and comraderie is an enticement, especially for anyone who is feeling isolated or lonesome. Both need a clear "de-hypnotization" from the allure of the short term benefits of gambling.

Just like Roger Moore talks about "it's not about the food" for eating issues, "it's not about the money" for gambling issues. Find what the gambling is providing that is not otherwise in your client's life and help them replace it.

Best wishes,

Kelley
