well i actually have a question, ive been hypnotising (im south african so its "hypnotising" not "hypnotizing") for almost 2 years, and i like to use eye fixation inductions, as these seem to work best for me, (more specifically fixating on a point below my eye) and i've been quite successful thus far, around 70% success rate, the problem is though, usually after my deepener (i prefer elevator going down and counting from 10 to 1) the subjects who i failed on pass the tests which follow (i do arm levitation, heavy arm, cannot open your eyes etc) but fail the next suggestions, (i always start with "name forgetting" and then "stuck to your chair") now i would like to ask is it because of the induction, deepener, or the suggestions to forget their names? and if they perhaps pass the "forgetting name" test, what other techniques can i use after that to deepen trance or to ensure they are in a deep enough trance for further suggestion? also i know the signs of trance but sometimes i still miss-read these signs, if any1 is willing to describe their techniques to me or give advice, id be extremely greatful!

any other advice will be appreciated, and im open to opinion

*why stop when you can do it, might as well get good at it right?*

Regards Adrian Stelzer

P.S: i never re-read this for grammar/spelling errors so i apologise for any of these :)

From one S.A to another....Some of the best theraputic work is done in light/med trance!! In my personal opinion people respond differently to suggestions as people are different.Trance Ratifiers work for some but not others etc etc....
There is a technique called anchoring that will help you tremendously. You don't state whether you are self taught or not so forgive me if these are things you already know.

An anchor is giving the subject a specific response to a specific input. (example: When I say the word "Deeper", you will notice the relaxation growing much stronger and you will feel yourself drifting deeper into trance and it feels absolutely amazing.) So the response of drifting deeper into trance, is anchored to the trigger word "Deeper". From that point on, all you have to say is the trigger word, and you get the programmed response.

This is how the reactive mind (subconscious/unconscious et al) functions anyway. It simply reacts to input. During hypnosis, a direct communication channel is established to the reactive mind so you can establish things like anchors easily. Depth of trance is often misunderstood as to "how asleep" the subject is, or how "comatose" they are. This is far from the truth. Depth of trance is in reality how much of the filter of the decisive mind (superconscious etc.) has been bypassed (aka whether the input is being monitored by the other parts of the mind or not) for content.

With your depth testing, start with the smaller muscle groups (eye catalepsy) then as they go deeper, move on to the larger ones, (arm levitation) to finally the whole body... (freeze).

As a hypnotist, the words you use are everything. You must pay special attention to how you word your suggestions so that they are non-threatening and hopefully provides benefit (the decisive mind (the filter) likes benefit). For instance, if you tell the subject "in a moment you will forget what your name is, it will be gone, wiped from your memory". They may resist the suggestion. They have need for their name, an may not want an interloper to try and take it from them. As you have noticed, some are easier to hypnotize than others. These are more naturally trusting and will not have such issues.

If you are watching stage hypnosis and trying to duplicate what they do, realize they they filter the subjects so that they only work with these "easy subjects" If the stage hypnotist meets any resistance at all, they will send that person back to their seat in the audience right away.

As a side note: I know your favorite induction is eye fixation, but you can actually hypnotize more people much faster and easier using anchors also. Here is a simple one for you to try if you care to.

In a moment I will say the name of a color. When I say the color you will notice that you get a real good feeling inside. When you feel this, let me know by saying "I feel good". Then we will move on.

Ask "Are you ready?" <--- IMPORTANT

(say a color, doesn't matter which one...snap fingers)

When they say "I feel good" say

Great! Now when I say the next color, you will notice how relaxed you are feeling. You will notice your eyes are becoming very heavy.. so heavy you will have to fight to keep them open. You can fight to keep them open or just allow the wonderful relaxation to let them close it doesn't matter.

Are you Ready?

(say a color, doesn't matter which one...snap fingers)

(look for the eyes closing)

Say: Great, notice how good that feels. Now when I say the next color, you will feel that relaxation growing very strong and it is going to feel fabulous, just treat yourself to this wonderful feeling and let your body go limp.

Are you ready?

say the color. snap fingers

Install any anchors that you may need.. "When I say the word "Sleep" you will instantly go right back to this perfect wonderful place and it will feel even better." etc.

I hope this helps you

I go for name amnesia as a depth tester, i dont do therapy only stage hypnosis, guess it woulda helped if i had said that earlier.... what techniques do u guys use and any other advice will be appreciated!! Oh and dudley, nice to c someone else from S.A!! so where'd u learn hypnosis then?
Wow John, thanx it helps when u got someone like u to give u advice, i appreciate it.
Is it possible for any1 else to mail me any useful material or advice to ultraviolet150@gmail.com
I would highly appreciate any input
Very interesting john, im definately going to try this out! But do i substitute my eye fixation induction with this one or do i use this after my induction or as a deepener?
Tonight I had a long session with a woman. Used a speed induction and deepeners. Then I suggested she not remember my name. I had her open her eyes and after blah blah, I asked her what my name was and she hesitated for a second then told me. I had earlier suggested the word sleep and she would go back under and she did (with a little hesitation). Next I had her forget the number 2 with an anchor. That worked. Then sleep and back down. I also suggested she forget my work title and brought her up and that worked also.

Strange, when I tried arm levitation it took a long while and her arm only rose a few inches. Afterwards she told me she had surgery on it and that may have been the reason she didnt want to "loose" it.

Anyways, Im new to this so I am feeling better about this now.

Ive had one study course, performed mentalism for years, one medical type workshop.

Count the opposite direction - and repeat the counting multiple times.
You don't seem to be doing anything wrong. But anchoring, deepening, setting up controls, entering a contract, re-deepening. All these things are important. Then there's the simple fact that everybody is slightly different from everybody else.
Yes it's a fact that in stage hypno I'd look for a natural somnambulist who, once they have a finger lock and dropped into hypnosis, they will literally obey every siggestion, whilst in the therapy room there simply will not be a constant que of somnambulists, therefore all of them will act differently... ebb & flow.
BUT, keep deepening, bringing them out, and re-deepening. The more that happens, the deeper they''ll go. The deeper they go the more they'll obey a suggestion. Albeit YES, even in light trance actual therapy itself will work.....but NOT momentary suggestions. I hope this makes sense.
