Opinions on a course being offered in Canada - Dave Elman Method for Pain Control

Hi everyone,
I hope I can ask again for your assistance (your last feedback on Don Mottin courses was awesome).

An expensive course $545 (2 days) is being given by Colonel H. L. Elman and Don Patterson (AKA Sean Michael Andrews) in Ottawa, Canada in October 2009 called The Dave Elman Methods for Pain Control.

All feedback about whether this course would be worth the time and money would be deeply appreciated by a few of us Canucks before we register. Most of us are looking for advanced, hands-on instruction....

If you feel more comfortable commenting in private my email lis graceplacewellness@gmail.com but I know that you would be doing everyone a great service by putting feedback out there for everyone who worries about spending hard-earned dollars on nonsense.

From what I have seen from Sean on this website, he is the real deal. If I would be in the area and had the time, I would attend this course.

Hi Grace,

I have trained with Don/Sean and I highly recommend his course. Great teaching skills, some of the best information out there and you will be able to jump right in and practice techniques in class.
Not sure what I can say about Colonel Elman - except that he is the son of the late-great Dave Elman! Dave, as I'm sure you know, wrote the book! Col Elman was trained by his father and was one of the few lay people able to attend his trainings that were exclusive to doctors and medical professionals. Great place to learn about hypnosis & pain control - money well spent!

I would have no hesitation in recommending any training Don is involved in.
Don is one of the most helpful, approachable people I've come across in this profession, I'm sure he would take the time to discuss any questions and allay any reservations you might have.

Hi Matt,
thank you...but.now I'm really confused. Some people have told me that Colonel Elman has never hypnotized anyone and is not a hypnotist...he just shares insights he got from talking with his father ????
Grace :)

Hello Grace,

People gave you good advice here, why keep looking for excuses, It's up to you to make up your mind, from what I read, It's sounds legit, unless you don't have the money right now, or you are not ready for this training and if that is the case, than It's OK, It's all up to you to go for it or not.

In any event, I have the feeling that you have nothing to lose and much more to gain.

Just my two cents,

Hi Grace,

According to the new video that was released, Col Elman has hypnotized a lot of people, although not often in a clinical setting. After taking his father's course three times he was encouraged to do stage hypnosis by his father. Something he gave up in college. His father encouraged him to use his old Vaudeville stage billing as “The World’s Youngest and Fastest Hypnotist.” So although he never practiced professionally as a therapist, he had the benefit of attending the Dave Elman class more times than anyone still living. Also he had the benefit of being heavily involved in the Elman family business and just sitting around the dinner table when Dave and Pauline Elman would discuss feedback from Dave’s physician students. This was all mentioned in the video. I wish you luck in finding the best class for you!
