Many of you know my good friend and teaching partner, Paul Durbin.  At Thanksgiving time in the US (late Nov.) Paul had surgery for liver cancer.  He was told at the time that they removed the tumor and all was well.  A week later I talked to him and he had been walking down the block and was feeling well enough for just having had surgery.  I learned late last night that Paul was back in the hospital in Lafayette, Louisiana.

I just got off the phone with Scott Durbin, Paul's son.  Paul is back in the hospital.  Paul was having discomfort trying to sleep on his back. He was having pain in the area of his liver.  They did a CT scan week before last and the surgeon called him last week to tell him it was clear--no cancer.  But, he kept having discomfort that was growing worse and not allowing him to sleep.  So, they did an MRI and it showed a localized area of cancer. They do not know if it was cancer that returned or that they did not get the first time.

The good news is that it is localized and will not require surgery or chemo to treat.  He will take a smart pill to destroy it sometime down the road.  They admitted him to the hospital because the doctors said his body was still in shock from the surgery and his vitals were all over the board.  He is extremely weak.  The current plan is to keep him in the hospital for 2-3 days until they can get his vitals stabilized and he can regain some strength, then let him go home.  There are no plans to treat the cancer until he regains some strength.  A few days after surgery he was up and walking around the block.  They think it is the lack of sleep, trauma from surgery and unstable vitals that are causing his weakness.
According to Scott he is making both short term and long range plans.  That's a good sign.  Paul's mother lived well into her 90's.  I'm counting on him to follow suit.
If I hear more I'll keep you posted.  All prayers are appreciated.

Thank you for letting us know about Paul, Melissa. His work and persona have touched many of us, and our clients, over the years. Best wishes to him for a speedy recovery!

Your Medical Hypnosis class with Paul in southern California about 6 years ago was the first hypnosis training I ever attended and Paul remains one of my favorite teachers and humans. I constantly recommend his site for resources regarding medical hypnosis, christianity and hypnosis and life in general.

Please let him know that he is in the minds of many and that we have faith in his ability to thrive.

Best wishes always,

Stephanie

Healing thoughts for him.  I was just thinking about him the other day.

I have added Paul's name to the Unity prayer list. They will pray for him 24 hours a day for 30 days.

If he's a friend of yours no doubt he is as stubborn as they come.  Nonetheless, he and his family have my prayers.  Thank you, Melissa.

Paul is more than just a great and nice guy and more than just a friend, though he is definitely those things too.

Paul really is an icon to many hypnotists, and deservedly so.  His work and character warrant the respect he's garnered over the years.

Glad to hear he's regaining strength and recovering.

Speedy recovery and good spiritual vibrations to Paul.Dave

Our prayers are with him.

Good thoughts being sent from the UK.
