the Free Hypnosis Social Network
In my opinion, addiction is a very valuable field of study for the Hypnosis Practitioner.
I've been meaning to read "The Compass of Pleasure", but haven't yet. However, the author was recently interviewed, and I suspect there may be some real value in discussing/developing some of the ideas presented from the perspective of a Hypnosis Practitioner.
There's no need to rush here, the intent of the discussion is to explore the ideas (as in, not already knowing that the author is correct or incorrect in his views/conclusions), not argue for your opinion or the truth that you already have to bestow upon the world.
So, take some time, sit back (maybe even relax) and give it a listen. There just may be something we can develop from engaging in the discussion with curiosity for the ideas... and respect for the view from the unique perspective of "others".
BTW: if you already know that the author doesn't know what he's talking about, or that what he talking about has not much to do with the practice of Hypnosis... just hyperlink yourself over to the special discussion I created in the Wild Wild West and we'll have the discussion in a different tone ; )
Namaste,
(with reverence to you)

I don’t know that discussing/developing “old” information lacks value. Shall I take that to mean you see no value in reading a book more than once?
It’s too bad (from my perspective) that you approach the topic with this comment: “Quite frankly, the author is not offering any new opinions or information…” That seems to discourage instead of encourage the exploration/development of some of these ideas.
I would be surprised to find out that the information discussed in the piece was “old news” to all members of this, somewhat diverse, community. I would be equally surprised to find that no one in this community would find value in re-visiting (further exploring) the ideas (as some probably do with the second or third read of a book).
I see that Jan was kind enough to use the “counter” discussion for his comment instead of possibly dampening the participation of members (possibly some who have never, or rarely risk involvement in a discussion) here.
I haven’t kept up on the stats… but I would like to encourage an increase in the number of members that participate on a regular basis, here on hypnothoughts.

Michael,I am very interested in this subject and my heart was happy, my mind was peaceful and my spirit was playful as I listened to the entire interview. And then I thought about it -- Quite frankly, the author is not offering any new opinions or information and he offers zero scientific evidence for medicalizing addictive behaviors... I did like the authors thoughts about helping people stop smoking by working with their inner-dog.I look foward to your making the time to listen to the entire interview and sharing your hypnotist's perspective of how and why this might be of importance or value to hypnosis professionals who are interested in helping clients with addictive behaviors.FYI - I found your closing statement rather odd and I followed the link -- I left a little note for you.Michael H. wroteBTW: if you already know that the author doesn't know what he's talking about, or that what he talking about has not much to do with the practice of Hypnosis... just hyperlink yourself over to the special discussion I created in the Wild Wild West and we'll have the discussion in a different tone ; )Hugs and Respect,Michael E.
