An induction is an induction. is an induction. I don't care what you call it. Prior to the induction you need a pretalk or .. a set up to set expectations and create rapport in your subject. After the induction ... You absolutely need one or more deepeners.and as Brian pointed out you need to create utility to accomplish your desired and targeted outcome. Without a deepner and ongoing utility, a subject will pop back out in seconds after even the best rapid induction,
Which rapid induction is best ??? That depends on which one YOU are most comfortable with. I personally would start with the basic arm tug or arm drop. Learn WHY it works and how it works. Get comfortable with it. Then go on and play with a lot of the "customized" stuff that is out there. You can't go wrong watching Brian's you tube stuff, God knows he has enough free quality stuff out there to teach any serious student. He only hits these shores once a year so I would give some serious thought to getting his basic DVD's and showing up at the walkabout in August. There is also a lot of material around from Richard Nongard and John Cerbone. Great stuff for learning Speed trance variations. Richard and John do a lot of seminars and you can catch up with them about every other month or so. If you look directly to the side of the page you will see Richard's ad and Sean Micheal Andrewa ad. Both are really good ways to cross train in Rapid inductions. If you are in California keep an eye out for Richard Rumble. Richard does occassional traings and is highly recommended. I know somebody is ticked off because I didn't recommend them, but honestly these are the people That I have trained with and had great experiences with. Final thought practice practice, practice.... Play , play , play.

Nick, like any induction you must follow immediately with your deepeners which are simply ways to maintain the trance. Instant or rapid techniques are of no value unless you give them utility. The "depth" of the trance is usually much "deeper" than a slower induction, IF YOU CREATE THE UTILITY and take immediate advantage of the state. I have a bias toward using speed inductions - I am one of the so-called speed hypnosis gurus and am teaching a creative walkabout trance event in August and sell a number of speed hypnosis DVD products on my webpages - however, given your previous experience and your hobby interest, you will find that speed techniques are a very valuable toolset, in many contexts such as what you described above they will be far more effective and appropriate inductions as well.
All the best,
Brian

Nick, I am at the point in my "hypnocation" (hypnosis education lol) that I am also looking at some of the more rapid / instant inductions. I think, what I have learned from all the wonderful folks that frequent this group, is that you have to go out and just do it. Though I feel very comfortable working with people, I have done most of my inductions/ therapy on SKYPE. So when I started working with a couple people in person, I decided it was time to trust my self and try something a bit more rapid than the 4 - 5 min inductions i normally use. I feared failure ...all the what if's... came out. What if they don't respond ... what if ... it doesn't work the way I want... or if they laughed at me... etc. Of course I was not about to do it in 'public' with any one looking. Now I do not remember how I got, or who gave me the idea on how to gain confidence in actually trying some of them... ( John Cerbone comes to mind... and my first try was his butterfly induction hehe) but I started practicing some of them as secondary induction with a previously installed post hypnotic suggestion for re-hypnosis. That way the client already knew how to enter trance, they were somewhat conditioned and all loved dropping back into trance. It worked as a fractionation and I could do as many I wanted to as it was just part of the deepening process, and an interesting process for the clients. ( they told me so, hehe). I got the practice I needed.
Now of course I need to take the next step. Use it as a first induction, and in public....
Have fun,
Aino
PS I second or third or what ever was said above. Utilize youtube and such to see how to do it . My friend Daniel Jones has also made available quite a large amount of videos, mp3's and discussion questions and answers on his profile/ group. http://www.hypnothoughts.com/profile/danjones
I was about to type up a long and quality comment but I noticed your post and said why bother. You took the words right out of my mouth Hugh! I couldn't have said it better. It's all about the set up. Once an instant/rapid induction is set up correctly technically anything can be an induction. Heck, even dropping a pencil!
Many new students focus on performing the induction correctly when in reality it's the other way around. If you have the right set up which includes a pre-talk, which can vary depending on your location. For instance, an office pre-talk will vary from a stage or street hypnosis pre-talk. Then all you need to do is build expectations, which can actually be combined within the pre-talk. Permission is a nice bonus as well, but you can get away with just implied consent. Still, I always like to get verbal permission, but that is just me.
I love the way Brian put it, YOU HAVE TO CREATE THE UTILITY. If you don't then your rapid or instant induction is worthless. It's like going to tie your shoe when you don't have a shoe ;) As far as inductions I have to agree with Hugh. It's completely up to you and your style. If your new to hypnosis it may take you some time to find your style, but believe us you will find it. I personally like the two handed arm drop, but honestly they are all easy and can be made up once everything is set up.
The two handed arm drop is very similar to a basic arm drop induction. Only having a client push down on both of my hands at the same time and once they put a little pressure I remove my hands and use the standard Sleep suggestion. One of my personal favs!
My friend John who posted in this thread has a cool induction based of Expectation which you should try out as well. Simple, yet effective. As Hugh mentioned Brian has a ton of great information available as well. Good luck with everything. Oh, please keep this in mind so you don't confused. You are going to run across many different explantations of Instant and Rapid Inductions and depending on the training that hypnotist received. This doesn't mean one is right and one is wrong. Each person just has their own take and adds their own style. So when learning these inductions or I should say learning the set up. Just remember to keep an open mind.

Brian, Thank you so much for your reply. I had no idea how supportive this website really was. It really helped. Im still a little confused (as i am new at this) by what you mean by creating a Utility. Also will you be doing any classes or seminars in California anytime soon. Thanks. Nick
