Especially in Instant and Super Rapid inductions, I find that a compelling hypnotic stare is a huge advantage. It disturbs my squad leader to no end when she sees me sitting at chow, staring off, not blinking for a few minutes at a time. I've even had a few officers tell me to blink every time they pass, because they fear the hypnotic stare! But what I'm wondering is, how can one make a hypnotic stare even more effective? I thought that one way may be to control pupil dilation, i.e. narrow the pupils, then widen them considerably an instant before the induction (for super-rapid/instants). Anyone know a way to control that process, or have any other tips on improving the stare?

One of my students claimed that he had read of a method to regulate the size of one's pupils. I believe it had something to do with tightening the stomach muscles while relaxing the rest of the body. There may have been more to it and I never actually saw it work, but who knows?

Are you certain they are reacting to your 'hypnotic stare', or are they simply reacting to someone staring in a dominant way?
I say this because what some believe to be a hypnotic stare is sometimes misunderstood by the recipient.
Please ask the people in that group what they feel when you do it.
You may find they are totaly tranced. In which case you will be able to direct suggestions.
On the other hand, you may find you are not as effective as you thought.
Either way, people external to the environment are the least effective source of improvement.
It is impossible for advice to be given correctly without sufficient recon.
Is the fear exactly what they say: fear?
Or submisiveness?

As far as the pupil size goes, I know that when you are looking at something you dislike, your pupils contract. And when you're looking at something you like, they dilate. And it responds to thoughts and imagination as well ... so perhaps you can hold something unpleasant in mind until right before the induction, then think of the most pleasing thing you can think of.

Just a thought. ;)

Also, part of the hypnotic stare, as I learned it, is to diverge your eyes so you are focusing *past* the person. I don't know if that's how you learned it or not, but worth tossing it into the mix if it's not there already. To learn how to do that, just pick up a Magic Eye book and learn how to see the 3D images there.

It's my opinion that the hypnotic stare works partly because it adds that extra bit of disorientation and confusion and partly because it's nonverbally leading them where you want them to go. Eyes-open trance, in my experience, tends to look a lot like the hypnotic stare: low blink rate (if even present), glazed look in the eyes, slack expression, etc. So by mimicking that look, you're effectively telling them what to do.
