I was wondering if anybody knows what time frames our bodies regenerate different cells, organs etc.

I poked a little online and didn't see anything to in depth...I decided to post/ask on here as it would probably benefit many of us.

It depends on the kind of cell. Some things like nerve tissue or brain tissue, don't regen at all.

FYI -I find teaching and motivating clients and doctors to develop the habit of intentionally relaxing and using imagery that focuses their attention on working and playing with a happy heart, peaceful mind and playful spirit for 2 or 3 minutes at a time, several times a day, on a daily basis is a very powerful way to assist their inner-physicians

Snip: "Depending on what source you read (from Dr. Deepak Chopra, MD to Grays Anatomy), our body replace its tissues and cells every 1 to 7 years.

- Muscles get replaced every 6 months to 3 years

- The pancreas replaces every 5-12 months

- Our bones replace every 8 months to 4 years

- Red blood cells replace every 90-120 days

- The intestinal lining replaces every 5-30 days"

Snip: Brain Cells Do Re-grow, Study Confirms

March 6, 2000 (Boston) -- Here's hope for those who fear they

lost too many brain cells to youthful dissipation: Researchers at

Cornell University have demonstrated that cells from an area of

the brain essential for learning and memory can regenerate in a

laboratory dish. In the future, the discovery might lead to

strategies for replacing brain cells lost to diseases such as

Alzheimer's.

Until recently, conventional medical wisdom held that we are

born with all the brain cells, or neurons, that we'll ever have and

when they're gone, they're gone for good. Over the last few

years, though, researchers have shown that in at least one area

of the brain, a region known as the hippocampus, there is

continual turnover of cells throughout most of our lives.  Unsnip

I would say that for hypnotic work, it isn't medical fact that matters, it's an understanding of what the client wants that's important. 'Artful vagueness' is useful and non-limiting.

I'm curious, Dan, as to what made you want to know about regeneration of cells.  If it has to do with hypnosis for healing, you would probably be safe saying that within each of us there is "a perfect blueprint for perfect health and wellness" (thanks Milton Erickson).  I use that a lot for any kind of returning to previous behavior as well as a previously healthy body.

I hope that's useful.

I can't speak for Dan, but when a client feels stuck and is having trouble accepting the possibility of change, it can be helpful to point out that our bodies are in a state of constant regeneration and that what appears static is actually changing.

I work on the assumption that our imagination creates the blueprint for our reality... Imagine the changes that you wish as if they have already happened... the mind can work wonders, once you give it a clear blueprint / set of plans to work from.

It is quite clear that most parts of the body regenerate, (at various rates) but these Natural (or average) rates, are what would happen without intervention.

There is no telling what the rate will be with useful interventions, but it certainly would be faster than the averages, which Michael helpfully posted.

Brain cells and Nerve cells, have traditionally been labelled as unchanging... but as Michael says, evidence is now presentiong itself  that this was always wrong.. and none of the scientific research, takes into account the effect of appropriately useful suggestions /imagery to accelerate healing, and positive change.

within reason you are allowed to make up your own rules, drop the attachment to established 'wisdom', and give your clients a belief in a positive future. (without telling lies).

Love and hugs,

Lawrie Shaw.

It was a whole string of crazy thoughts honestly, and I find it very interesting. It mostly started with the research and time frames our body heals itself from smoking. I also have heard different things about skin being new every 6 months.

Thanks for all of the replies, I didn't update my email addy on here so I didn't see them right away.
