Hi All
I have been asked by a journalist if I know of any research on the successful use of hypnosis in the area of eating disorders. Less about anorexia or bulimia or binge eating but more about childhood 'fussy eating' problems. The journalist has written a piece about my work with children but the magazine only wants to print it if there is some serious research to quote ie not merely anecdotal.
Thanks for your help
Lynda

Hi Lynda,

How about:

"A paper published in the Int. J Clin Exp Hpn. 2007 jan,55(1)84-113, points to a key role for hypnosis for treating childhood eating disorders like neophobia and fussy/picky eaters.

or

"Implications for a key role for hypnosis in the treatment of eating behaviors, attitudes, and concerns are discussed in a literature survey published in the Int J Clin Exp Hypn. 2007 Jan;55(1):84-113."

Here's the citation--
Int J Clin Exp Hypn. 2007 Jan;55(1):84-113.
Hypnotizability, eating behaviors, attitudes, and concerns: a literature survey.
Hutchinson-Phillips S, Gow K, Jamieson GA.
Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, Australia.
The literature suggests that aspects of hypnotizability may be involved in the etiology and maintenance of self-defeating eating. However, interpretation of the published research findings has been complicated by the use of instruments that appear to have measured different or, at best, only related facets of the underlying constructs. This article reports relationships between weight, shape, dietary concerns, hypnotizability, dissociative capacity, and fantasy proneness. Implications for a key role for hypnosis in the treatment of eating behaviors, attitudes, and concerns are discussed.
