Hi!  I recently had a client with a severe flying phobia and she just took a plane to Germany! I worked with her for 2 visits. In the first one, we discussed why she had the phobia, when it started, how, etc.and particularly what impact on her life did her upcoming trip have on her. This was important because her husband was being transferred to live there and she would have to give up her job and family support network here. First I showed her EFT tapping.emofree.com if you are not familiar with it. We did many cycles of it, and she found she could reduce her anxiety level from 30 (on a scale of 1-10) to a 3. So in trance I did a progressive relaxation with her to start, then used a deepener. I had her picture the first time she had a trip with turbulence and then I did a basic phobia technique in which you picture yourself before the turbulence, and then see yourself after the turbulence (safe) had ended. She replayed in her mind the whole turbulence experience backwards, and then backwards again quickly. We did this several times. Then we added humor to it by seeing the people with clown noses and clown shoes on and made it funny with circus music. I told her that her subconscious did not know what to do with the ISE so it just decided to avoid planes altogether. I had her imagine a big safe and calm cocoon around her in the plane, and she expanded that out to the entire airplane. I showed her pictures of my recent trip by plane in which we saw the stewardess taking tickets, entered the gangway, then the plane, storing stuff in the overhead bin and finally seat belting herself in. Each step she used the EFT tapping. End of first visit. In the intervening time, she tapped at home but then watched an airplane  crash movie with her husband which set her back. The second visit, we reviewed the EFT tapping, in trance, a deepener, then we repeated the fear technique described above and I asked her to imagine how she would like to handle the next plane trip and had her see that image of herself. Then she did an NLP technique called a visual swish in which you see yourself watching a movie of yourself and you enlargen the picture of yourself not handling the trip well in the center of the screen. You take that picture and make it bright and then you dim it and make it less clear and you overlay that picture with another image which was far back in the right hand corner of the screen of what you want it to be like of you in the plane. You switch those images --always from the undesirable to the desired image, 3 times. I told her that flying would be a very pleasant experience for her now and apparently it was as she emailed me from Germany.

Yes, I can help. Even though I do not like the whole script thing.

Regression to discover and release the initial sensitizing event (ISE) and the activating event will give her a good probability of lasting success. Other techniques may help either partly or temprarily; but years ago I saw a client who experienced EFT and NLP from another facilitator...only to backslide because the core cause remained buried in his subconscious.

If you are not trained in regression, help her with one of the techniques mentioned above...but after her trip, refer her to someone who is competently trained in regression. In my 28 years of experience, I've seen several clients who had the temporary fix that is common in our profession.

I use Gerald Kein's phobia cure and did a fear of flying session with someone the other day in a matter of minutes.  Not only did he say that his fear of flying was gone...he was looking forward to getting on the plane.
I tried to go to ISE but when I asked them to get the anxiety up, they couldn't..How would you handle that?
