I like "The Secrets of Self Hypnosis' by Adam Eason.

Some books that I have enjoyed and found useful in some fashion, in addition to the one mentioned above:

Powerful Mind Through Self-Hypnosis - Cathal O'Briain

--> includes good information on self talk and using autosuggestion throughout the day, as well as formal self-hypnosis

Self-Hypnosis Demystified - Adam Burke

--> a nice overview of developing a self-hypnosis process, which allows for the possibility of "meditational" styles - the author seems aware of Eastern thought where relevant, such as pratyahara an option for preparation

Self-Hypnosis - Brian Alman

--> a thorough and well-rounded approach which builds up to chapters solving different problems

Instant Self-Hypnosis - Forbes Blair

--> a different approach based on reading aloud to yourself, nice for variety and fun to try

Neuro-Hypnosis - Simpkins & Simpkins (based on their older Self-Hypnosis Plain and Simple)

--> I just got this book so can't comment fully; but it is built on their older book, which is based on Ericksonian approaches to trance and self-hypnosis. Lots of exercises to work with and gradually develop trance skills.

Hypnosis - William Hewitt (has a newer version called Hypnosis for Beginners)

--> Recently bought it used and realized I'd read it while young; a story of self-hypnosis during an injury had always stuck with me but I didn't know it was from this book. Not for everyone, but I got something out of it. There is a review on this site if you search for "Hewitt".

I found Hewitt's book on hypnosis to be mostly worthless except for the anecdotes; however, his book on developing psychic abilities actually has some very good information on self-hypnosis. :-)

There are reviews of both books on my blog, realhypnosisreviews.blogspot.com.

James - it was your reviews that I was thinking of. :)

I thought they were available through this site too, although perhaps I was mistaken.
