the Free Hypnosis Social Network
Hi all,
I have a question about trying to get multiple domains to lead to one site. I want the benefit of having the domain as a keyword. For instance SeattleHypnosis.net leads to my wellness center's website hypnosis page. I know that because I don't have a real seattlehypnosis.net site of it's own that I'm not getting the SEO on the page it forwards to. So know one searching Seattle hypnosis will find me but someone searching ascension hypnosis will.
I need any suggestion or guidelines as I know Google will ding you for having multiple site with the same content.
thanks!

Your question isn't really clear. I'm not sure what you are trying to do.
Why would you want multiple domains to lead to one site?
Cheers,
Craig Eubanks
Permalink Reply by Graham Old on December 15, 2010 at 12:31am The key, Jason, is to avoid trying to trick Google. Some people invest in little tricks that might get good results for 6 months, but in the end it will backfire.
You won't get SEO results on a page that automatically redirects because Google correctly classifies it
It sounds laborious but it's true: the best way to get good Google results is to have good content relevant to the search. At the very least, consider having one page on each of your extra domains. It could contain testimonials, or news on hypnosis. Then have a link to your main site from there.
Or save money and just invest in the one domain! ;-)

If the question that you want to have multiple websites with similar content or that you want to redirect people to a single website? Graham is correct about redirect sites, Google ignores the redirect website. Websites with similar content can get dinged by Google if the content is exactly the same or close to it.
What is the real problem that you are trying to solve? Is it that you are not getting traffic to your website?

Here is my exact dilema.
short: I have a number of good seo hypnosis domains. I want them all to be searchable & get good results without having to make a site for each one or cheating seo or google. Is there anyway to do this?
Long: I want to make my own hypnosis practice website. Currently I'm listed on my Clinic's website. http://ascendwell.com/hypnosis Its gets great hits in google as does my whole clinic's site
In moving to my independent site I have too many options of great domain names that I own. Each has value in SEO & each is short, some have better long term value, some sound better.
SeattleHypnosis.net
ChangesHypnosis.com
MortonHypnosis.com
HypnosisSleep.net
BeginningToZen.com
I don't want to fool google, my ascendwell.com site has had great results just by being a good site. I want to do the same with my new hypnosis site.

I have spent many hours trying to search this & am guessing I'm SOL. I'm afraid I have to pick just one.
Or maybe as suggested make a business card site with a link, maybe some original rss feeds for each. A non-hit gathering 301 redirect isn't an option or I waste the domain.
I just know how many hours a week it takes to run/create a great site. I do this for my clinic & its painful work. I'm willing to do it for another site for myself but 4-6 of them will kill me. Currently I can't decide which domain to use, brand my name or the site, which word press template asylum/minimal/atahualpa , ego pictures of myself or no (feel free to answer any/all of these)..... it endless with a new site. Then comes the updating & pivoting to who is actually looking at your site.
Thank you all for your help (sorry about the slow reply, between patients).
Permalink Reply by Mike Bowers on December 15, 2010 at 2:50pm Make sure that the domain name has the word hypnosis in it. I would suggest going with Seattlehypnosis except that you will be going up against hypnosisseattle.com and this could get confusing to your clients.
Handle Seattle by including the term Seattle WA on the bottom of each web page. This will allow Google to index each page using the words, Seattle and hypnosis. After that, use content to push the website to the top. For me, that's using a blog with one entry a week.
Also, Craig Eubanks hosted a teleconference discussing the power videos have of moving a website up in the rankings. Create a short video introducing yourself, post it on youtube, make sure the keywords hypnosis, hypnotist, Seatttle and anything else that is relevant is included in the posting. Include a link back to your website. And of course, use the video on your website. This should give you an "unfair" advantage over the websites currently in the top 10.

Permalink Reply by Jason Morton on December 16, 2010 at 2:31pm Thanks for your reply. I listened to that same discussion Craig Eubanks had, was excellent, and I do plan on doing some videos. My only issue is that the template I'm using doesn't handle inline video.
I was leaning toward the seattle hypnosis one as locally it would seem to be the most popular in this area but after using google insight for a few hours I found "change hypnosis" to be almost 40% more often search in this area.I was the other way around until 2009 and now it seems positive changes has become synonymous with hypnosis in this area.
The only really huge variable now is how much impact google makes using implied local/places search. Even though changes wins in search terms it depends on what google says about location & hypnosis assumption.
Now I'm more confused then when I started & I still can't get the pictures in my template to stop cutting off. All this work & still not live site. I know I need to pull the trigger on this & have set a hard/firm date in pen. Monday when I wake up all decisions will be made.
Still asking anyone, know how to do a multi domain site all getting good results?

Are you talking about having multiple domains that "point" to one domain? I have 4 domain names, that whenever someone puts in any one of those 4, they all load up on the same page. All are pointing to my main domain name. This is done through my ISP, and in the domain management page. Now, I don't know about google marketing....
Permalink Reply by Jason Morton on December 16, 2010 at 6:16pm Thanks Cindy,
I'm able to do & am doing what you suggested. I want it one step further, I want Google to treat each domain as a website. When you type in seattle hypnosis I don't show in search results because I only redirect. I want the benefit of good seo on each domain without having to build multiple sites.

Permalink Reply by docregal.com on December 16, 2010 at 7:45pm Ever consider setting up a simple blog site for each domain name? Write an extensive article or a few brief ones, add link to get more info and voila. Word Press is one of many options.
Excellent Idea!
Extending the 'don't trick google' theme, this is actually spot on.
Blogs are great for SEO, and can act as feeder sights, picking up on the relevant keywords, and sending traffic to your main website.
However since blogs do need to be updated fairly frequently to keep the google gods happy, maybe a static site might actually be a little more useful?
Automate redirects KILL seo - so are not usually recommended.
Cheers

Permalink Reply by docregal.com on December 17, 2010 at 5:37am Thanks, Nathan. I think it is worth experimenting with this concept. Frequency of putting up blogs is really up to each individual. Key is: have attention grabbing content. You will obviously need that to draw viewers to your website.
