Firstly want to thank everyone here for giving great advice to myself and others - i have learnt a lot :)
I have been working at a clinic now for a couple of weeks and am getting great feedback and re bookings :) We have offered a 50% discount for first bookings to introduce me to the area - this has been going well and everyone has re booked at full price.
My question is this: I spend a good hour with each client for their first couple of sessions but am finding could probably do a half hour session with them after this, just to reinforce and strengthen what is already happening positively.....
Have any of you offered half hour sessions for those clients that are doing well but just want that "top up"?? I would charge per half hour for those clients.
Obviously, if they found that they were experiencing other issues and we needed to spend more time then a longer sesison per hour charge would be recommended.
Some feedback and others experiences would be great :)
I just have to share this - i have had people come in and tell me that they can't be hypnotised or even relax and i have had them zoning out completely! Yay!! This forum has shown me what i needed to see for me to believe i can do it and so i am :) Until a tricky one comes along of course! hahaha
With my weight loss program Slender For Life I start everyone out with individual sessions (never less than 8) First one is 90 minutes - the others 55 minutes. After that they go to Personal Power Sessions which are every other week & 30 minutes each until they reach their goal weight. I do not offer them individually - they are in packages of 2, 6 & 12. (@ sessions for $150.00 - $765 for 12) I have done this for over 10 years - it works great and people love them.
I work on every session being about an hour and a half.
on follow up sessions,
I like to spend a good half hour recconecting with the client.
Hearing all that has happened in between.
Celebrating their successes,
and working out what needs to happen next.
and then an hour long sesion of hypnosis.
reitterating and reinforcing suggestions,.
making adjustments based upon the feedback received.
I am building up a relationship with the client.
I never have clients queing up.
so I am not rushing to get the client out of the door.
I take as long as I want/need to do what seems appropriate,
in a leisurely manner.
and make it an experience to remember.
Sessions do sometimes get a bit shorter sometimes,
but only if I feel we have done all we need to for that visit.
I know this would not work for many other therapists,
for any number of reasons.
Practical and otherwise.
but it works for me.
I'd love to have shorter sessions. I'm of the Stephen Brooks variety and have to work hard to keep to under an hour!
I can completely relate to your gratitude for this forum. I saw someone this week and helped them quit smoking. Last week I saw them for positivity and they said that the whole week people were commenting on their change. Of course, that meant that their expectations were sky high this time around!
I give my self cover for shorter session in the very first meeting and sometimes on the phone interview. I tell my client that the first session will be 60-90 min. long and all sessions after that will vary in time depending upon the issue that is being addressed. The fee for the session stays the same they just get a bargain in the first session an if they come back it will average out. I always plan for a 60 min session after the initial session so as not to rush the client.
I charge per session, not per hour or half hour. I also give package deals...love locking in a client for more sessions...better for them and for me.
I schedule the first ever session at 90 minutes. It usually ends up being less than this, but it gives me time to write down my thoughts in the clients file before the next client arrives.
After that I schedule sessions for 60 minutes. I don't always use all 60 minutes. I have clients who are so good at hitting trance now that we induce in about 2 minutes and then spend 40 or so minutes on their issue they want addressed.
I never tell them an exact time for their sessions. I simply say sessions are around 40 to 60 minutes so plan accordingly.
I think that if you started charging for half hour you'd end up with a bunch of people only scheduling and paying for that half hour to save money...but what if they are in the middle of their session and it becomes obvious to you that they need longer? Do you then take longer anyway, even though they didn't pay for longer? Or do you cut them off, wake them up and send them on their way even though you felt they needed more time?
Just my opinion of course. I wish you the very best of luck in whatever direction you take.
I agree with everyone here my first session is 90 mins and then the rest are 60 mins. It would ne great to do 30 but it's not enough time to spend with m,y clients. I do 3 sessions for weight loss and then if needes a few every two weeks till they reach their goal.
