About a year ago, I tried everything under the sun that I could find, ended up sticking with Dragon. The others do not work any better including Voxx. I had others a while back mess with my PC real bad (and it was a microsoft version). I have Dragon working a little better now since I found that a really good microphone. I bought a Samson C01U USB mic and have found it works really well with recording sessions as well as speech recognition. I hope this helps a little.

Not open source (hardly) but supposedly the voice recognition that is built into Windows Vista is even better than Dragon (would not know, since I have not tried Dragon).

Vista, voice recognition is indeed very workable once you have spent the time training it.I too have samson USB mike which i good for lots of things.
