1. Do more shows
2. Train with someone who actually does shows not someone who says they do shows
3. Have fun, be playful, be bigger than the room
4. Hang out with guys like Richard Nongard and Richard Rumble ... thier confidence is infectious
5 Join John Cerbone's group and ask real questions so you can discover why you are not confident in the first place

That's off the top of my head. I may think of more later .

Chris, a technique I have found helpful is to run a quick "mind script" right before the program begins. It usually goes something along the lines of saying to yourself "I like this group, they are going to like me and this is going to be a lot of fun for all of us." Its quick and easy to do helps me to make the inner adjustments that make presenting a lot more comfortable. Jim
1. Know your material well enough to not have to think about what you are going to say, and practice saying it enough so it comes out automatically.

If this is not enough,

2. Have someone do a fast phobia cure, or similar technique with you to rid yourself of the fear feeling associated with stage work.

Well Hypnosis yourself for stage fright or by a friend...
The more you do them the more at ease you will feel
Just have fun on stage and the thought of being scared will go away...

Just have fun..
Start with a good joke. Having most of the room laughing within the first minute does wonders to get rid of those nerves.
Or (a little controversial this one) for the first few seconds, ACT a little nervous. You're probably not a good enough actor to act something and actually feel it at the same time.
When ever I got nervous before a stand-up comedy gig, I'd shuffle on stage muttering "Must make a mental note to stop talking to myself..."
It got a laugh and helped relax me for both reasons mentioned above.

Interaction with the audience is i important it gets them involved so they feel apart of the show. just a thought!

Throw yourself into the technique and by the time you finish the video -- it will simply dawn on you that you have been confusing stage "excitment" with stage "fright" and whenever you get those sensations they will automatically remind you that you feel excited because you know a secret -- You know that -- YOU CAN DO IT!

The sensation of fear is very close to the feeling of excitement...you might subsitute one for the other..
Funny--I just finished a workshop helping musicians do exactly that.

All the advice you've had here is great. I made a hypnosis CD for myself to build my confidence as a hypnotist.

Also, I find that pushing all the stress into a ball and shooting it into outer space works really well for me.
The first time I went on stage I was 11 years old as a young flamenco dancer in a concert hall..the lights were blinding and I froze...but I remember the director quickly whispering to me that I was no longer "me" for the duration of the performance, but that I am now(my stage name)...and she shoved me onstage smiling...the unexpected one second shove combined with the suggestion actually worked...

Chris,
What has worked for me is to do some smaller venues and just go for it. Was nevious as hell and doing a couple of small shows with friends was awesome. I thought that I was awful and after the shows, everyone was so pleased. I was amazed that they did not even know what I went through. Had a great time and gets easier each time. Have fun.

Success is more than luck; it is preparation meeting opportunity. Solidly know your material. Practice, practice, practice!
