So I was just checking out Bob Doyles lecture on how the Law of Attraction (LOA) really works and while I find all the fancy talk of energy right up my holistic alley, the hypnotist side of me wants different words.
For example (in my paraphrasing) he says-

These feelings (ie negative emotions, patterns of self sabotage, feeling you don't deserve what you want...) are an indication of what you are vibrating in regards to some issue. It disrupts the energy system of what you have going related to attracting what you want.

How would you as a subconscious scientist translate this from LOA speak to Hypnotist speak?

Brilliantly yours,

Heather Meglasson

I would say, "Thinking positively sets up a postive expectation for your unconscious, causing it to direct your behavior in such ways as to bring about your conscious desire rather than thwart it. If you spend all your time worrying (ie. visualizing how you might fail), you send a message to your unconscious mind that failure is the expected outcome, so your unconscious does all it can to bring about your failure. This may even operate in ways that are thoroughly inexplicable to modern science, so much so as to seem magical."

Of course, as a hypnotist, I find that I have a foot in each world--the scientific and the mystical--and I have to tailor my explanations according to my audience.
I would say, "These limiting beliefs about yourself are preventing you from not only creating goals, but achieving them. In order to better your experience of life, it is necessary to replace these negative or apathetic thoughts to ones with positive inspiration and outcome. It is first vital to imagine your destiny, then design your beliefs to align with the direction of that destiny...the rest will naturally follow....and my voice will go with you!"
The LOA is actually very simple (although when fully utilized, quite powerful).

I'll explain it in the same way I explain everything else... In plane English and... by helping you to experience it, right now...

First let me ask you, what kind of car do you drive?

When you first considered purchasing that car, did you happen to notice a whole lot more of those very same cars on the road?

Most will say, Yes.

Does that mean that you *manifested* or *attracted* those cars? Nope...

But you did stimulate a part of your brain called *The Reticular Activating System* which is essentially what controls how our brain focuses on *reality* as we know it.

When we get clear on what we want, as the LOA suggests, it does appear as though we *attract/manifest* it but really, about 95% of the time, all we are doing is no longer filtering it from our conscious minds.

And this allows us to also notice many, many more resources (of which previously we were only unconsciously aware of) that can help us to achieve our goals and *attract* what/who we want in our lives.

Back in the *old days*, people would go to see the local Witch to find the perfect relationship/mate. The Witch would then ask the person to write down on a piece of paper who their idea of the *perfect* mate was and place the piece of paper into a small box and forget about it. The Witch would then give the person a candle to burn every day and would tell the *client* that by the time the candle burned out completely, he/she would have found their mate.

Did the candle have anything to do with *attracting/manifesting* the mate? Probably not, but the fact that the *client* took the time to get clear on the ideal mate, write it down on a piece of paper, and then allow their unconscious mind to go to work at allowing their conscious mind to be aware of this *perfect mate* so everyone could live happily ever after...

Now, that being said... Remember I said that 95% of the LOA is simply your reticular activating system at work? Well, the other 5% is just plain spooky...

I remember once not being able to sleep and feeling like a quit booster shot of inspiration, so instead of downloading some find adult entertainment, I decided to download a film by Louis Hay called *You Can Heal Your Life*. and enjoying how much I agreed with the film. I also remember noticing that the *affirmation cards* mentioned in the film were the same cards that a Social Worker, that I sublet my office to one day a week, uses with her clients.

I remember thinking *Hugh... maybe I should actually look at them instead of put them away when I'm in the office because I think they're just a bit too *feminine* for me..." And I also remember thinking "Maybe I should actually buy a deck for myself"...

Well, the very next day I went to my mail box and I there, waiting for me was a package marked *Air Mail*. I looked at it and noticed that it was from one of my students from the U.K.

I then proceeded to open it and I'll give you one guess of what was in it...

After picking my jaw up off of the ground, I then immediately emailed my student and thanked her and shared the brief story.

She then emailed me back and said something along these lines; "Kevin, you won't believe this but when I first picked up these cards, I put them back because I thought you would think they were too feminine but as I was walking away, a voice inside just told me... Get him the cards... He will love them. So I did..."

So is the LOA some mystical force or is it simply a matter of our own minds noticing how much of what we desire in life is already all around us?

I'm really not sure but what I do know is that it works. So use it...

All the best,

Kevin

P.S. This was written as I sit in LAX airport getting ready to fly to Sydney Australia for 18 days... Weeeeeeee!
Wow, these are all great angles on the discussion of LOA. I appreciate all you taking the time to give your ideas and concepts.
Thanks!

Heather
