There is a live blog at http://www.huffingtonpost.com/
Good idea, Zolita.

If I knew how to do it, I would do them but my heart is with them.

I fail to understand how this supports freedom in Iran?
She has a zillion pictures of supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and women in burkas supporting the government. Iran will never have freedom as long as a religious government is in control. Any and all Iranian presidents are slaves to the religious theocracy that rules the country.
I am in favor of all people being free, and citizens of the world, with right to movement, religious practice, life and liberty without the dictates of ANY religious rulers. The current president is clearly a nutcase, but any successor in the current religious system will be just as perfunctory. And oddly enough from the pictures posted, looks like Arriana actually supports the current president.
You also stated that the US "controls" the internet and seem to advocate "jamming" of websites via the use of software. You think "jaming" websites is freedom? I have been all over the world and spend almost half my time outside of the USA. The USA does not "control" the internet. In fact, I live in fear that Brussels actually has control. And clearly China controls the internet as evidences by the cleansing they gave google the other day. Countries like Cuba and North Korea keep access restricted, and the USA clearly would love to have access to those countries, so it doesn't look like the USA really has much control over the internet to me.
Educate me if I am wrong....
Dear Richard.....I can see that I left out part of a sentence and confused you. I meant to say there is already software available that could be put on the Internet to making jamming of web sites much more difficult. I was supporting the work of this organization: http://www.internetfreedom.org/ As to the Huffingtonpost, I was referencing the live blog by Nico Pitney. Many pictures have been on the home page and the ones you mentioned were about Friday's happenings. I doubt"Arriana actually supports the current president." I to " am in favor of all people being free, and citizens of the world, with right to movement, religious practice, life and liberty" I am probably more tolerant that some people may choose theocracies. Control is always a poor choice of words, but I do feel that the US can have alot positive impute in helping the internet to be a venue for the free exchange of ideas and information...blessings, Zoilita
Susan..thanks for the email. Here is something that we all can do. The US has a lot of influence on the Internet. There is already software available that could be put on the Internet to making jamming of web sites much harder to do. President Obama is right that we should not meddle in the affairs of another country. We must however, support the freedom of information to all people and the ethical treatment of people. Pretty soon there will be national dialogue about keeping the Internet open and available around the world. We can all support this. Blessings and Abundance! Zoilita
Thank-you for the clarification. I too have left out a sentance, being the worst typist on hypnothoughts, I am sometimes misunderstood. The scary part is that there ARE people who believe freedom comes when the government protects them via censorship. They postulate it promotes order or morals and increases freedom. Of course, we know that is not true. The website www.InternetFreedom.com seems like my kind of website, thank-you for the link. I will go read Nico's blog, I there are some gems on Huffington's website, but sometime her agenda gets in the way of common sense.
As for freedom, was rivited to the images in Iran today, authorities closed off subways and access to public areas and issued stern warnings, yet people were still present and shouting from rooftops. It will be interesting to see if a strike becomes the next outlet for protest, and that could have very significant ramifications.
I live in Tulsa, an interesting area since in 1979 many Iranian students were here for training in the oil and geology business and never returned to Iran, and so I have many friends from Iran and my thoughts are always with them and their familes, many of whom remain in Iran.
I am also from a political perspective a true card-carrying Libertarian www.LP.org and so liberty, freedom, and limited govermnet are always the topics that interest me. I still will always disagree with your premise though that a theocracy can ever be free, regardless of the religion.
Amen to that!
Whatever one might call it, it is a repressive dictatorship, even if it is rule of law by a group (of clerics, ie spiritual leaders????)

Repressive dictatorships don't give up power without violence, unfortunately.

Until some brave people are willing to give their lives, change won't happen, unfortunately.

As mad as I can get at our own government, we generally never have to face death to make a point (not always so, but since the bloodshed of the '60's).

Speaking of madmen, has anyone heard anything more about the rise of the Nazi Skinheads? Pretty darned scary.

change it to purple with pink spots if you like.until you get rid of the ayatollahs and the backward islamic law, which includes such barbaric acts as hanging 15 year old girls for adultery and the country becomes secular things will not change.
I think Richard and edington maybe right and the end of the theocracy is the only way to create freedom. Zoilita
