Hi everyone,

About 2 months ago I saw Criss Angel‘s street hypnosis on youtube. But now it disappeared.

It was said ’make people sleep just by reading a flyer'.

Then I search the keywords and find a discussion on magiccafe:
http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewtopic.php?topic=250454&f...

It seems Criss might not be a likeable person there.

So does anyone know, is it possible to induce an instant hypnosis just by watching a picture?
And why youtube deleted that footage?

All the best,
Yong Peng

If it were possible, I would have to believe a bunch of pre-conditioning would have had to happen. Although, what you believe is your reality and what you expect to happen tends to be realized as they say.

Another side to this, a friend of mine that lives in Vegas said what you see on camera or TV is not the way it happens. He said that they have stooges on sets that he has seen.

What you see is not always what you get. That is why they are called "illusionists". On Tv and on film you have many takes .. many edits .. many camera angles. There are hypnotists that don't believe in Hypnosis. They create illusions that "look like" hypnosis. They teach "dual reality" hypno illusion.... not my cup of tea, but certainly works for them.
That said .. Bruce is right. It is in the set up or preconditioning that that stunt would work at all. There used to be a guy and I forget his name, but he would do his pretalk, hand cards to each person and have them read the cards. The cards contained a written out induction. Supposedly it worked for him. Heck the expectancy induction works over Skype with the proper pretalk.

Yong, I saw the episode in question and I believe I know how the technique works. You gather a group of volunteers beforehand and give them the following powerful suggestion "Fall down when the director gives the cue and we will pay you $100 and you will also get to be on TV."

If the suggestion doesn't take hold with certain volunteers, you delete the footage and re-shoot the scene.

And I have nothing against Criss, I find shows like his entertaining and they do whatever takes to amaze/amuse the audience.

He probably did something like this.
We are looking at a "re-induction" like I did in the video or some use of stooges. Those are the only two possibilities I see.

Oh I forgot about the mystical $100 to make me look good induction. I wonder if anyone else has ever used that ...? probably as good a way as any to get Zapped I suppose. Hmmm

Thanks to Bruce,Hugh,James and Sean.
This topic may links to Derren Brown's 'telephone hypnosis' and 'photo booth hypnosis'.

Let me make a list to inductive all the popular analysises:

1.Stooges
2.Pre-conditioning (kinds of covert suggestions except direct hypnosis)
3.Re-inducion
4.Dual reality
5.On-the-spot bribery

I think 'On-the-spot bribery' is just a sarcastic joke but hard to take action. If I get such a message I will be excited and look aroud to find out the camera before I decide to fall down.So that they have to cut and delete, saying 'What a pity we can't pay an idiot like you".Then I twitter...Using stooges is still at risk of extortion.Only the shareholders of their company can be trusted to act.

Dual reality is often used on magic show like 'invisible touch' for fun.As what Hugh said, this cup of tea works for magicians well.

Many of us hypnotists may think it was a re-induction or pre-induction.That's OK for DB's 'telephone hypnosis' ,because he said nothing to promise inducing from cold.(And we all see his 'invisible man' is a standard negative hallucination). But CA said he was doing an experiment on the street to find how people respond differently and try to treat them into sleep just by reading a flyer. If CA was doing a re-induction,there was really no necessary to call it an 'EXPERIMENT'.

If pre-conditioning means we give suggestions in a covert way -like billboard or amplifier on their way, even the hypnosis consultants can pretend to chat up passers-by,I will still think it was a good job.(although cutted).

But I had read about MobiUs, synchronization and syncopated rhythm techniques from Therapeutic Trances.
So is there any possible that CA use a Mobius effect to post process his flyer, while DB use a synchronization/syncopated rhythm to post process his phone call?

Whether they had faked a hypnosis,I still admire them enviously. They have enough money and time and consultants to research new.

Let's go on.
Discussions and researches today will be techniques tomorrow.

You've mentioned a very important part of this equation, and that is the use of cameras.

Anything that is filmed is an illusion. Cutting and editing video is a matter of creating illusions. Movie scenes in which two people are conversing are often shot on different days, sometimes in different locations. The two actors may not have even met.

People like Criss Angel and Derren Brown are experts at creating illusions. While they may do some real hypnosis--after all, the best illusions have truth mixed in--realize that creating an illusion is often easier than performing real hypnosis.

And you're right about the risk of getting cheated if you agree to be a paid stooge. There's a famous story about a stage hypnotist who had one volunteer that just wasn't working out. He was short on volunteers, so rather than send this guy back to his seat, he leaned in close and whispered, "If you'll do everything I say and put on a good show, I'll pay you fifty dollars when we're done." The volunteer proceeded to put on an amazing show. Just before dismissing the volunteers, the hypnotist touched the man he'd agreed to bribe on the shoulder, saying to the audience, "And the person I'm touching will be convinced after the show that I owe him fifty dollars. He will come up with all kinds of crazy excuses and reasons for this, but of course all the rest of us know that isn't true. Now, everyone come out of trance, feeling great!"

There is a modern famous Chinese saying,'Don't indulge in brother.Brother only lives in legend'.

OK,I see.
