I have heard that people can be hypnotized covertly or openly through text alone. Is this possible? Any opinions on the subject would be very much appreciated.

I am voting with John Cleesattal and Fable Goodman. Text trancing is not only possible but effective when used correctly. BDP has a wonderful text trance he wrote as a contribution to one of Wendi Friesen's books .. back in the day, I have used text trance effectively with at least two of the PTSD cases that I am known for in certain circles.
Text trance is NOT for covert hypnosis. Text trance is NOT post hypnotic response to key words. Fable Goodman gave a wonderful example of obvious text trance by BOLD FACING his set offs. Anyone that understands the POWER of Poetry and Metaphoric Storytelling knows the power of properly structured Text trance.....

To inbed a message, does it have to stand out from the rest of the text, or will the subconscious see it anyway?

Ha ha..

Thanks Susan,

The thing is,
it was typed (laboriously)
on an old Amstrad PCW many years ago,
which has long since stopped working.

I have one printed out copy
(faint dot matrix) and in reality,
I would have to do the whole thing over.
and probably revise it in light of
fresh experience and knowledge

Perhaps that is a project for the dark winter months.
But I am not promising.

Spooney the Goon:
Regarding embedded messages in text.
I am of course a rank amateur, not an expert
and so I expect nobody to pay much attention to what I say.

In one sense, it doesn't matter how
you mark the embedded messages.

If they are there,
they will be picked up at some level.
if they are acceptable and appropriate

You could mark them obviously
(as I do here)
or it could be subtle.
it may be misSpelled words, or the use of inappropriate capiatls
or punctuation.

Intention is paramount.
both the intention of the sender,
and the intention of the receiver.

If you are saying the right things, then it will have an effect
with or without obviously highlighting the embedded messages.

When dealing with sophisticated readers...
ie those who consciously understand the principles of embedded messages
then the obvious marking can be used as a distraction technique
or a red herring
while they are occupied looking for the embedded message...
the real message which is not so obvious sinks in easier.
it is multi level communication.

The key thing is to engage the reader.
if you can keep them engaged,
and say something useful,
then it will have some impact.

what is missing in the writen communication,
is the immediate feedback, on what impact you are having.

Love and hugs,

Fable

Isn't that the point of all hypnotic communication .... engage and involve the imagination?,

There's a book "Instant Self-Hypnosis" by Forbes Blair. It's not expensive. All about reading to do trance work, by reading text.

Not only is it possible, it is rather easy and effective. I prefer to use text over voice and video when hypnotizing someone online as I find that it has certain strong advantages. I often get somnambulistic phenomena in under 7 minutes.

Joe,
Once you have the person deep enough, do you switch to vocal methods?

Psssst, Spoony --

Don't look now and try not to stare -- I just posted one of those hypno-text thingees in the smoking cessation discussion., but keep it under your hat...

http://www.hypnothoughts.com/forum/topics/smoking-cessation-1?page=...

Readers will be trancing out -- left and right and that's the way you do it...

Actually, as far as I'm concerned, covert text hypnosis is possible. That's because for me, the whole "physically and mentally relaxed" business is a completely optional part of hypnosis. It's all a question of definitions. Personally, I find that the line between persuasion and hypnosis is very, very blurry.

It's not necessary to mark out any statements in hypnotic text. I posted this thing ages ago: http://www.hypnothoughts.com/forum/topics/hypnotic-letters?page=2&a...

It's completely free of marked out statements. I was practising specific ways of structuring communication there. Today I would probably write something shorter to achieve a similar effect as the one I intended there.
It definitely had an effect on at least some people, by the way. Someone who isn't part of this community told me that reading that post had this effect: "I felt like I had been blindfolded, spun around a hundred times, fireworks set off in my ears and then told to go and find the pixies." That wasn't precisely what I had intended but I think it's fair to say that it helped with what I intended. I intend only good things, of course.

Get rid of the idea that hypnosis is something mystical and this stuff gets simple. Not necessarily easy, but definitely simple.

Wow, thanks for replying, as you know I am quite new to hypnothoughts and not a very experienced hypnotist and all the help I am receiving on here is great!

P.S: Just had a practice, is it a good example? (obviously with real suggestions, instead of random bits of text being used.)

Thanks for reminding me of that Jan,

As I read it ,I had a vague Deja vu feeling.

It was only when I got to the end,
and noticed my response to it,
that I remembered I had read it
and appreciated it before,
Just over a year ago.

Funny how these topics
keep going round in cycles.

LOve and hugs,

Say if I were to write a text saying this:

(This is case sensitive by the way)

"hey there i was wondering if you Want to get together To Meet Me Now? if you wanted to we could Meet At Twelve? Text Back"

Just an example there but would that work?
