Does it annoy anyone else when people use the term 'bypass the critical factor' rather than 'bypass the critical faculty'?

For some reason it irks the bejeezus out of me!

I love this post! I hope a bunch of people put their pet peeves here. Mine is recordings that want to leave you wide eyed and alert when what you really want to do is drift off into sleep.

Heh...

The phrase 'bypass the critical faculty' annoys me just as much: there's no such thing! ;-)

Just my 2p

Thanks,

Adrian
Why not just call it the reality filter :)

John
I tell people to forget trying to bypass anything and just ignore logic and go straight for the emotions.
I think I'll just call it the critical factorial.

Does not exist! = reification * nominalisation * hypnodogma * demonstrably inaccurate * neuronal network processes....

Hey I like this game :-)

Cheers,

Giuseppe Peano would like to take this opportunity to discuss a couple of axioms with you...

Presumably via Doris Stokes, rather than Twitter?

Maths isn't my strong point. Apologies for the general abstract nonsense I was trying to describe a mobius strip :p
Critical Defintion = Inclination to judge too severely: captious, carping, censorious, faultfinding, hypercritical, overcritical. Characterized by careful and exact evaluation: discerning, discriminating

Factor Definition = someting that actively contributes to an accomplishment, result, or process

Now is there not a Critical FACTOR in the process of the mind....( thought, reasoning, critical process i.e. critical factor)
I wish there was a "Like" button. :-)

I use the term "critical factor" to describe our ability to determine what is real and what is true. It is but one factor of our intellect.

But then again, you might have to ask the tenured faculty about that. LOL
John
For some reason whenever I see it I always read it as a misquote. Elman used the term 'critical faculty' so if I refer to his methods I use that term.

I guess if you are using 'critical factor' as a deliberate preference then fair enough.

I can't help it but it always reminds me of Biff Tannen - "Hey McFly, make like a tree and get outta here!"

...and what about people saying "I could care less" when they really mean "I couldn't care less"?

I need to stop this now and find my happy place. I clearly have issues.
