I've bought a new book. It's called (The Power of Now) by Eckhart Tolle. I'd like to know if some of you have had any experience with this book. It seems to be very interesting and like it seems it helps you to raise your consciousness level.

It's taught in the book that every person is involved so much in their past and in their future, that it creates harm(past), and anxiety(future) so we forget our Present, our Now moment.

Im sure that anyone of you have RIGHT NOW any problem. Im not referring today, neither 2 minutes, im telling you NOW you dont have ANY PROBLEM. Thats what we use. We eliminate the mind and just live and feel, the moment, the moment of Now, of connection with the Wholebeing.

I cannot explain nothing really, because it's too long to explain, and really, you cant explain it.

What I've learnt since i've been reading is that, you must STOP your thought proccess NOW, so you stop the worst USED machine in the history. Cause really, you dont know how to stop it. But indeed, it's a very useful tool used in a useful way (I think that you all now this last thing, logical, isnt it?)

The main trick to "stop" the thought proccess is to observe the thoughts, not judge them, just let them flow and look at them. Be the witness who's seeing everything thats happening just right NOW in your head.

The real thing is that since I've been applying the main technique, I can assure you I'm changing (in a good way). Im being more conscious about myself, I can claim my rights with no hesitations, it also seems (although it sounds incredible) that you attract more people, situations, things... People now look at me and talk to me just like if I was a pile or an energy supply.

I would like to have any feedback about this book if you have ever read it or know something about this topic. Not even if you didnt read the book , but you may know something related.

My Best Wishes,

Jesus

Yes, I have the book. Oprah did a few week course on internet about this with Tolle a year or so ago. It's one of those things, like most of this stuff. You do some conscious work for a while, then go back doing regular things, living your regular life! All awareness is good, though, in the long run. I used to study this metaphysical & energy stuff extensively. When I got into hypnosis it explained a lot of the unexplainable things away through the science of hypnosis. So now I have put this stuff aside. Maybe I'll come back to it later. Not sure.
I have got the inverse experience as yours.

I think i've found the explanation to lots of unexplainble things about hypnosis, the law of attraction, and a few more things that I cannot renember right now, in this book. It relate everything.

Hypnosis is not a science. But anyway it explain some things, but hypnosis is just one little atom in a whole system.

I think everything is (almost) related.

There are some things I dont beleive, but exercises like this makes you think.. What if no(one) of us had thoughts, you'll just "flow" with the nature. This may help while hypnotising too. Ive found that this way, you shut up all the fucking (sorry for the word, but its neccesary for emotions :)) voices I hear inside my head, doubting, fearing, limiting myself.

Its not taught to DESTROY the thoughts, just be aware that your not mind, and your 1 person, present, here (despite all the religious stuff written in the book). When I'm able to not to think about nothing now, then I realise what I've been missing something for a while. Its like if subconscious thoughts emerge while you look at them. Its incredible. It also enhaces the creativity and provide clear thoughts (with lot of practice I cant even imagine what I will be able to do!).

For example , yesterday I used my mind in a different way when I was going to study. I didnt think anything and didnt judge anything, just learn. It's like if I'm already friend of Mr. Math and he tells me his secrets about geometry.

Thats how I see it.

Could I teach someone and guide him through state of hypnosis to change his beliefs, such as: "Universe is One. Your Universe and everything you see are you too" (for example..) or "Ill count 3. When I say 3 you will STOP every thought. Youll be free of them and feel the connection with the Be." or for example "Ill count to 3. When I reach 3, you will be able to talk and understand the language of nature, energy. You will be able to talk to plants and animals, but not in a normal way, you'll use your 'energy powers' to connect with them"

As The Power of Now is based on focusing the awarness TOTALLY, I think it may help hypnosis too.

What do you think? Could I hypnotise someoone to install these unconscious beliefs? I have got a very good friend who's superexpected about this. He would like to be like a shaman, you know? HAHAH this may be 1 way to guide him through his spiritual path.

First I GOT to say your name, Jesus, is quite ironic for this discussion!

Due to my beliefs, my experiences, my background, I come from a different perspective. Yes, PON was the end all/ be all a while back. I had weekly gatherings at my home on it, we studied it, everything. I'm not going to go into all my belief system, but I did want to mention one thing....You said,

"Could I teach someone and guide him through state of hypnosis to change his beliefs, such as: "Universe is One. Your Universe and everything you see are you too"

As hypnotists it is not ethical, in my mind, to hypnotize someone to change their beliefs to my/your beliefs. What you read is theory. Everyone has theories to how the universe works, how "things" work. It may or it MAY NOT BE TRUTH. (Maybe we all will learn "truth" once we pass over, dunno) So is it really your place to change people's belief to what you think is truth? Plus, if they do not believe your way, it probably won't stick anyway. As I see it, metaphysics, New Age, all this, can be the exact same trap as any religion. Those who believe--REALLY believe--think it is THE TRUTH. As most religious people believe that their way is the truth and many are determined to get others to believe it, too, by reading scriptures, quoting the bible, quoran, *whatever* or maybe even by hypnosis? Would you want a religious hypnotist to hypnotize you in believing THEIR religious way?

I honor your enthusiasm. To me, there is at least partial truth in what you read. I feel it too. All the channeled material I've read in the past, all the entities who have written books and spoken in their unusual accents, I've gleaned higher info from them. It has helped to expand my awareness, to be open to new possibilities. It gets a person out of their box--always a good thing. Keep reading. Keep expanding your mind.

I still believe in a lot of the metaphysical ways, but have come off of it a lot lately. I now see how my cemented beliefs how life works (PON, channeled information, other similar ways) only limited me again. Hypnosis helped me to open up again and see NEW reasons for things I thought I had all figured out.

Let me take an example. For years I had inner feelings/thoughts. I thought that was God talking to me, intuition, inner knowing. I had nearly always heeded these inner thoughts. Later I found out that I was empathic and telepathic (aka highly sensitive person) and many of those thoughts/feelings were other people's thoughts/feelings that I felt inside of me--not God at all! What I thought was God directing my path was, in truth, other people's thoughts and feelings that I thought were my "intuition", and that I was being pushed and pulled around by other people's thoughts/feelings. (A reason I MUST be very careful around good sales people!) PLUS, I'm now reading Suggestive Therapeutics by Bernheim and it's blowing me away. I am seeing how hypnosis may be a factor in these thoughts/feelings I feel inside, also. (Anyone who has read it knows what I'm talking about). I am opening my mind to other thoughts/beliefs/experiences now. I'm not sure exactly how life works anymore. My mind is expanding even further.

Bottom line is ANYTHING that takes us out of our box of set beliefs is great. Higher awareness is key. Open mindedness is key. It's not our place as hypnotists to push our beliefs onto others. It's our place as hypnotists to help people go the next step of WHERE THEY ARE, to overcome the obstacles they want to overcome. Period. We work for them.

SIDENOTE (had to respond to this comment!)

"You will be able to talk to plants and animals, but not in a normal way, you'll use your 'energy powers' to connect with them"

I do this, I actually have an entire book written and published on talking to plants and animals and all aspects of nature, and I DO use my 'energy powers' to do this. But....am I really? Dunno. Can I make people do this through hypnosis? Not if they don't believe they can. SHOULD I make people believe they can? Not my place.

Thanks for the discussion. Love the subject, Jesus.

Hello Jesus,

After high school and some college, I didn’t read anything that wasn’t absolutely necessary, no books, magazines, newspapers, not even junk mail. I had a reading disorder that I wasn’t aware of, I thought it was hard for aleverybody to read and that they were just better at it.

Mostly everything I learned was through observation.

Around age 50 I had this feeling that I understood more than I knew. I understood much more than I could explain. I decided I needed to start reading.

One of my attempts to overcome the reading disorder that I had, led me to a meditation class to slow my mind down.

We had a book list. The first book on the list was “The Power of Now.” I had never heard of it, I had never read a self help book, a spiritual book, and had not even heard of hypnotherapy.

I went to the library and they gave me the book called, “Practicing the Power of Now,” by Eckhart Tolle.

It changed my life.

Here’s what I now understand and believe, maybe not only from the book, “Practicing the Power of Now,” (which is the work book, and in a very simple form), but mostly from that line of thinking.

There is no emotional pain and no suffering when living in the present moment. Worrying and stress do not exist in the present moment.

Whether it is true or not, when I became aware of those theories, which I had never heard before, my life started changing right there and then, on the spot.

For, in order to feel pain, one would have to go back into one's past to remember what pain feels like. When you go back, you are leaving the present moment. There is no memory of pain or how to feel bad, living in the present moment.

And that worry and stress don’t even exist. We have to create them in order for them to exist. We have to go into the future where things haven’t even happened, make believe they are real, but once you go to the future, again you have to leave the present moment.

It is also said that the present moment is a very spiritual time. It is where people start out when they began praying, it is also said that God, or what ever your belief is, exists in the present moment, that when people are making that connection, they are in the present moment.

When I play tennis and things are going as good as they can be, and that happens a lot, I am living in the moment or in the zone, everything outside of what I am doing fades away. Work, traffic, the news, all that stuff is gone, there is no past, no future, and it is always a thrill and a rush.

How simple is it to be present or in the present moment?

I think it was in the practicing the power of now, you simply just start describing what is going on, for example, I am sitting here typing, I’m sitting on this chair, my fingers are pressing down on one key at a time…..as I describe that to myself, I take myself right into the moment.

When you are describing to yourself what is going on at the moment, you can’t be in the future or the past and therefore you can’t be worrying, stressed out, emotionally suffering or in emotional pain.

It’s not an escape, it’s a realization that we can live without creating things that make us miserable.

I have a quote on my wall at work.

“Worrying is using our imagination to create something you don’t want.”

Yes I could go on forever but I’ll stop almost here.

And as far as his book, “A New Earth,” that book is fantastic for not only understanding the ego, but on how to allow the ego to dissipate. The harder one tries to fight the ego, the stronger the ego gets, (we have heard that strategy before). The ego’s job is to exist and one of the ways it does it, makes us miserable and the more miserable we get from our ego, the stronger and the more alive the ego is.

But by just acknowledging that it is the ego, the ego dissipates. You could have pushed me over with a feather.

He has a meek little weird voice but a huge message, and it has nothing to do with religion.

And I agree it is not our place as hypnotherapist to get our clients to believe in what we believe. Respecting their view of the world and using their own solutions to the changes they want to make has always been way more than enough.

Enjoy,
Steve
If the Power of Now and living in the moment is a new, exciting concept, I invite everyone to learn to do just that in a most unique and challenging way. Try a 10 day SILENT retreat on Vipassana Meditation. No talking, no looking at anyone in the eye, no TV, no radio, no connection with the outside world. Structured, scheduled to mediate and learn mediation for around 10 hours/day (on/off). They feed you and house you for 10 days. Some don't make it. Can't handle it.

When you go to the very roots of Buddhism, you learn about present moment, aversions and cravings. You learn that staying in the present, you can recognize aversions and cravings, you can overcome anything, because you learn that "all things pass", so you just wait and wait for the aversions ad cravings and, *things* to change/pass. And they almost always do. The experience is a challenge, but well worth it. I know one Hypnothoughts member is going to experience it soon. Hm...wondering why vipassana meditation has come up twice lately. Maybe that means something..... I've done the 10 day course! Check it out.

There is nothing that is absolutely true at all there are things that work in a given context of varibles and things that don't work in the same given context of varible, but fuction as well as, or better than the latter in a different context of given varibles. Every thing we experience, our perception is a creation, all our own in it's self. If you were to be given the complete set of belief structures, to be compared to your own normal state, it would we like being on LSD.
What I found most exciting about the power of now, as with hypnotherapy, and the law of attraction, is that before I came across these things, and it was at least 50 years of my life that had passed before I became aware, and not only did I not hear or understand these concepts, no one that I knew in all that time had either. And if they did, they did not share.

Before all of this, I thought that we were stuck with the cards that were dealt to us. That people had to make the most of what they were, because that's just the way it is, that some people are lucky and the rest of us have to suffer or struggle.

The exciting think about all of this was that no one is stuck.

I had always heard that, "people could be anything they wanted to if they just set their minds to it," but no had ever taught how to set your mind to it, or how the process worked. Everyone said, "you can be anything you want if you just set your mind to it," but no one actually knew how to set one's mind to it.

That is the amazing and exciting thing, to me, about the power of now, hypnotherapy, and the law of attraction. By the way, I don't think the movie, "the secret," did a thorough job of explaining exactly how that works. I believe the unconscious mind and the conscious mind need to be in harmony when wanting something from the universe or it's more what the unconscious mind wants and boy that is a hard thing to explain to someone who is saying all the money in the world will solve all my problems and I know what my unconscious mind wants.

Enjoy,
Steve
