What i am wondering is if you can slow down "time" through self hypnosis. We all have seen the tricks were people memorize the order of a deck of cards just by watching it being flipped through. I can barely get a glance yet they have it memorized. Is this hypnosis if so how do i go about doing it. If not any ideas? could not find what i was looking for any were else if you have a good source post it or just tell me what you think.

Can we slow down time through self hypnosis? No. Time itself is not affected
Can we change our perception of how much time passes with self-hypnosis Yes. Time distortion is a symptom of trance.

Flash memorization is a learned skill that requires much practice to perfect. I have met a person who could do it. They allow the deck to put them in a trance state then access the images in long term memory to retrieve them. I had always thought it was just a trick until then. You can get more info by searching the net for edictic memory

Here is a video using a similar technique of trance via flipping through pages

Hope that helps

Thanks for the Youtube video I haven't seen that before and it was interesting to see thanks for the post..
I agree with the time of what John had stated..
The short answer to your question is, as John already stated, yes. You can learn to slow down your perception of time with self-hypnosis.

Longer answer for the trick, though, is it depends. I'm sure there are some people that really do the flash memorizing as advertised, but many people, um, well, cheat. I know it's hard to believe, but magicians do cheat in their tricks. ;) I don't want to give out details on that, but suffice to say that it's not hard to do as a magic trick and no trance state or eidetic memory is required.

Please note: I'm not saying it can't be done straight. ;) I'm just saying a lot of magicians and mentalists who do the trick do cheat.

PS. I just watched the YouTube video and that looks to me like possibly a combination of a mentalism technique with some posthypnotic suggestions from a prior hypnotizing of them. Then again, Luke Jermay has some tricks up this alley that are similar, and I know amnesia *can* be induced that quickly ... takes a lot of guts and confidence to pull it off, though. ;)
Ya like he said it is some suggestion a head of time. Maybe a little anchor's but did not really see. Also some subliminal through his hands and speech.
Hi Ben,
It's not the illusion of slowing time down, but we actually speed ourselves up, and time appears to slow down. It is said that Andre Agassi can see a tennis ball sooner than most, I would guess that, that means he sees it approaching slower where the rest of us would barely even see a fast serve.

They did an experiment on the science channel to prove if time slows down in a crisis or a life and death situation.

I know I have had a couple of cars pull out in front of me while riding my bike, and the first time I rolled over the hood of the car and rolled over onto the ground. It must have only been a couple of seconds for the whole thing, but while it was happening, I could see myself in slower motion roll over the hood and sense myself not only thinking, but planning on how to land.

In the experiment on the science channel, they attached an Light Emitting Diode, (LED), display on a guys arm and speeded up the flashing numbers so all the guy could see were all the led's lit, the flashing was so fast that it seemed like they were just all lit, he couldn't see a number flashing.

Then they hoisted him up a high platform and pushed him off into a net. As he was falling he could read the numbers going down. His body, in an attempt to survive puts out more adrenalin to speed up the thinking process so it can see more solutions for survival.

When I heard about time distortions in trance, I got all excited and realized that we distort time all the time and make little effort to take advantage of such a powerful tool.

So one of the things I do just for my own sense of....hey, if we can manipulate time, why not do it for our advantage. We have all heard the saying, "time flies when you're having a good time," and, "we've been waiting for hours it seems, don't tell me it's only been ten minutes."

I reverse the process, every time I realize I am enjoying something, I go into a light trance and hold on to the feeling as long as possible, much longer than the average person, and when it comes to waiting, it's all about being in the moment, in a zone, enjoying what you are doing and not focusing on how long, but on how nice everything is in the moment, and the next thing I know, the waiting is over....I even catch myself in the middle of a very pleasant conversation and want to wait some more.

We are beings that have been given the ability to manipulate the illusion of time, I'm glad you are taking advantage of it too.

Whewww....I thought I'd never finish this comment....and I loved every second of it.
Steve
