I work in a intensive support unit for young adults with Personality disorders and autism.

The young people I work with are able bodied and very active people.

In the uk of late there has been alot more press/tv coverage of people with autism, which is giving people more information about ASD or PD.

But  still there is a nasty stigma in the uk about most mental health disorders.

I would bet that if most of the population had a an assessment on their own mental state there would be traits if not more diagnoses of mental health issues.

My debate I have is that when I had a discussion with some of the fat cats of the mental health private organisations, it was so frustrating to hear some people speak about how can we run this BUSINESS better, hardly a word about how can we improve the services they provide. no details but some of the residents pay upto and above £9000per week, for staffing medications and activities etc.

When I approached some of the members and spoke about the usage of nlp for example could really improve the residents life and nlp techniqes could  improve the BUSINESS GROWTH.

it was only the latter that started them intrested in things.

But only again it came down to money for training in the staff which is an investment, did they put things on the back burner, Yes there is still a money problem in the UK but come on.

My view and records of individauls improving  in their life by guiding them through challenges in their world using hypnosis and nlp techniques is there for all to see.

  its a win situation surly?

Am I just sounding off?

or is there other ways to approach training?  I know and understand not all agree with hypnosis and nlp but the evidence is there plain as the day is long.

Here is an idea...
Study operant conditioning (B.F. Skinner also some easy reads from Karen Pryor). The basic concept is EASY to learn. Really!
I've worked with many people and operant conditioning shows AWESOME results with autistic people. From... teaching children/adults how to use the toilet to anchoring a relaxation response. (although the operant conditioning autistic toilet training article online and on every search engine is total crap, I wouldn't waste your time reading it) ~ to keep this short, if you want to know why it's crap, email me and I'll be glad to tell ya!
Operant conditioning functions on the principle, "anything that is reinforced is likely to occur again." This means positive AND negative reinforcment INCREASES the likelyhood of the behavior repeating.
Easily used for children & adults.
When you gain 'quick' results with easy to do (non-threatening) methods...it opens the door for other helpful methods such as NLP, hypnosis, and...all those other wonderful tools.

The reason I mention it is because ...sometimes people are less open to the 'idea' of hypnosis. When I see doors shut because of their uneducated views, I find a different door - one that seems less of a threat. Open this new door, show some quick results and people want to hear more of your ideas.

Cheers!
~D.
