I don't understand this question, sorry?
How do you mean take over? Since they are always in control what can you take over? Are you assuming that you can 'hijack' their mind for the time being?
I think I saw that Warner Brothers cartoon myself, I can still hear Daffy Duck's evil laugh when I think about it.

Nick,
Hypnotic trance is what is called a "consent state". This means that we comply with suggestions as long as there is no reason not to. If we have a reason, we can pull ourselves out of trance in a heart beat to deal with it.

Assuming that you mean "take over" in the sense of start giving suggestions, rather than take over in the sense of "rule their mind forever"--then the short answer is yes. In theory, that should work.

But in truth, why bother? Learning to give effective suggestions is, imho, actually more difficult than learning to hypnotize someone. Inductions are easy; effective suggestions take far more creativity and know-how.

James
Hello Nick,

I believe that you are asking if you can pick up and manage the hypnotic ritual after using an induction device like a video or audio recording to induce trance - If that is correct: The answer is yes...

Michael E.
James and Michael are correct. You could do it with audio as well. Wendi Friesen's HOW TO HYPNOTIZE YOUR LOVER DEEPER book has a CD package that works as an induction which is supposed to "hypnotize" someone and then their lover takes over after the induction to begin giving suggestions. Personally, I would suggest that if you don't wish to learn proper hypnosis techniques then use a solid audio that installs a reinduction trigger so that the person goes into hypnosis with the intent of allowing a partner to give suggestions. Of course, having genuine hypnosis skills would allow you to deepen and be more effective and you would have the skillsets needed to give appropriate and safe suggestions.

All the best,

Brian has hit the nail on the head pretty squarely here ... Even "taking over" requires a bit of skill and the ability to establish and KEEP rapport with the subject, or as I prefer Trance Partner. Every stage hypnotist has had the experience of having someone "drop" in the audience only to have them pop out again because thier friends were giving them "less than acceptable" suggestions. I would also emphasize that on the CD he spoke of Wendi gives specific instructions to allow "your lover" to begin giving suggestions. As someone who explored that specific approach "back in the day", I can assure you that knowing what you are doing as result of proper and through training yeilds much much much better results.

Absolutely, one can. But, remember that the trance state is transient; a person moves up and down, and across, within it.

Whether you pick up on it in acceptable and congruent ways to the person's values determines the outcome.
i dont mean take them over i mean take like the session over....like the video puts them in the trance and then u give them the suggestions
i mean take over the session and give the suggestions not take over there brain

Yeah I know one of the most sound ways of doing this!!!! Buy some commercial time ;) I hear every one is doing it now :D Have you ever watched a commercial that did not quite "sit well" with you?

I do this with my girl friend. She has a CD she loves to listen to that puts her into the trance state. I then deepen as needed and give the suggestions. One of the things that makes this work is that she is already 'conditioned' to enter the trance state. The problem with most videos you see on Youtoob is that they are 10 minutes or less and probably will not work for a first session. As has been stated here it is easy to learn to induce trance so why not just do that?
