Hello Sunita, first of all, you are not treating any medical condition, your job is to educate them and help them with self improvement.

Also you need a referral from the client's physician, also make sure to keep in touch with them regarding your clients for additional support or recommendations by their doctors, and please remember that you are are not allowed to diagnose clients or to recommend them to go off medication, and no matter how good they feel, this is not your responsibilities, since it is their doctors responsibilities.

Sunita, to practice safely in helping people with medical conditions. you will need a referral from each client's individual physician. Even if you have a physician supervising you he or she cannot say whether hypnotherapy is contraindicated or not for a patient they haven't personally examined and taken a history from. Jim

Depending on local laws -- My guess is that the correct answer is D) All of the above.

You are welcome-
In the hospital I have an MD who acts as my supervisor. He does case review only and signs off so they can bill insurance. In my private practice I get a prescription from the individual's physician.

No physician would write a prescription for meds for a patient they had not personally examined. The same goes with hypnotherapy.
Medical Physician referal I believe is needed if that person is diagnosed. We are not physicians and should not claim to be. Get the referal before doing any hypnosis. Also as stated keep in touch with that physician as it is still their patient.

Sunita,

I know Melissa Roth won't blow her own horn about this, so I'll do it for her. She has several excellent books on working with the medical community.
