the Free Hypnosis Social Network
Why hello there!
I am wondering if anything new has come out in terms of hypnosis protocol that really works (fairly consistently, not interested in theory but real world results please) to help clients with snoring.
Usually, I, myself, just help client's partner to be relaxed by the snoring as it is usually the partner that is bothered by it.
A TV station is asking if hypnosis can work for a show idea for one of the TV hosts.
Thanks!

Permalink Reply by Donna Carter on January 26, 2012 at 12:35pm A good hypnosis protocol that really works .....is to help them move past their western diet and sedentary lifestyle.
Snoring is usually caused by only two things: 1. narrowing of airways during sleep - the fatter we are...the more narrowing that occurs. or 2. a person might be one of few...who were born with a structuring issue causing a smaller jaw and upperface... causing less room between the nostrils and the back of the head (narrowing the airways).
Both....require a person to seek a healthier lifestyle.
People always want a magic pill...but uh....snoring is an alarm bell saying "WTHU". ~grin..... or ....don't....wake....up.... since sleep apnea is holding snoring's hand.
Hope this helps...
Cheers,
D.

FYI - Suggestions to relax and gently keep your mouth closed and breathe through your nose would not be helpful if the person is breathing through their mouths due the person's inability to breathe through their noses due to structural problems or disease. The great news is that not the case for most snorers... Most snorers habitually breathe through their mouths and they can re-learn to breathe through their noses and hypnosis can help -

Permalink Reply by Michael Ellner on January 26, 2012 at 1:50pm Like you, most of my clients were the partners of snorers who wanted help tuning out- their partners snoring - I guess the snorers didn't think it was their problem?
Several years ago, I worked with four clients who had breathing issues that included snoring. They were class-mates in a "breathing workshop" that was recommended by their doctor and they were doing several health related things at once, like changing their diets, beginning to exercise, etc.. It was their suggestion to use hypnosis to help them get in the habit of breathing through their noses during sleep and we created the ritual based on what they were learning in the workshop... They all reported improvements that included a reduction in snoring to no longer snoring...

I love night time rituals....and this one is super beneficial ~ for everyone.

Consider having the "client" practice a nightly ritual that will promote a good night's sleep and breathing through his or her nose... I recommend a few sets of alternative nostril breathing to a 4 count (Gently close your right nostril with your thumb. Inhale to a four count through your left nostril, then close with you pointer finger and hold for a count of 4. Open and exhale though your right nostril to a count of four - now pause between breaths for a 4 count... Keep your right nostril open and gently inhale through your right nostirl to the count of four, now close your right nostril and hold it for the count of four and open it and exhale through your left nostril for a count of 4... now pause between breaths for a 4 count...That is one cycle - Have your "client" do 3 cycles and a 3 sets of 8s inhaling and exhaling through both nostrils --- (Inhale through your nose to the count of 8 -Hold for the count of 8 - Exhale through your nose for the count of 8 and pause for the count of 8 and Inhale through your nose to the count of 8...repeat... 5 times before going to sleep with the post hypnotic suggestion that breathing through his or her nose before enjoying a great night's sleep would remind his or her mind and brain to relax and close his or her mouth and breathe through his or her nose with the suggestion that 30 days of practicing self-hypnosis should noticeably reduce or eliminate the snoring...
