hi how are you.  im new to the site

i was wondering if anyone has expirienced the following.

I have a client that sufers with no confidenceto the point where she worries consistantly when doing the job she has.

she doesnt like her job  and has no motivation (or she says this could be just worrying about finishing it succesfully) which causes her stress but when she tries to learn something new,a new future it causes her stress again because she has no confidence and is scared to learn which may result in another failure.  all this  result in migraines.

She has been going to phycotherapy due to ptss after an incident but tells me she suffered these confidence/motivation issues beore this time and she would rather not deal with the phycotherapist with these issues and would prefer to come to a hypnotherapit because they are belief issues.  from being told she was stupid as a child.

Does anyone know what would be the best angle to approach this from,  im more inclined to go from the confidence first.  id love to hear what more expirienced hypnotherapists views are on targetting first as she seems to be in a bit of a vicious circle

thanks ever so much

This sounds a bit spooky to me. You say she is under the care of a psychologist/psychiatrist but would rather not deal with the therapist with these issues because she thinks they are belief issues, and she knows it is from being told she was stupid as a child..

Do you have the permission of the psychologist to help this client? You are leaving yourself open to legal action if you don't.

It is a bit rare for the client to know the origin of their unwanted feelings, and from what you say, I am guessing she had these issues before the PTSS events?

What more can you tell us?

Hi John
I would deal with the confidence first, going in on the emotion back to where she first experienced that feeling, and any following events as needed, it may not be from where she thinks. I have had several clients say say where it came from only to find it had nothing to do with it. If you use IMR you can find out.

Presumably she is seeing a Psychotherapist through the NHS or even if it's privately being in the UK I don't think you will be open for legal action. Having seen his posts John will probably also come up with a good pointer.
I agree with Peter's perspective. Revisiting childhood self-worth issues and regressing to root cause can readily clear your client's pathway to a brighter future.
The opinions posted on this topic so far are excellent...so go back and read them again.

First, I would INSIST on a medical referral before working with the migraines. Second, I would suggest (for your legal protection) that her psychologist give her permission to work with you.

Assuming both of the above, regression would most likely help with her confidence and childhood issues; and parts therapy would help to discover which part is creating the headaches as well as why.

You might wish to read the articles on parts therapy on my website:

i would just like to thank you all for your advice into this case. all the opinions are of the highest degree and will definitely be taking the advice of each and every one. Before taking on the case i had lenghty talks with the phycotherapist and it seems the treatments with him are ending as he feels he has talken her as far as he can go. she has been seeing him weekly for 6 months and has made huge developments having come in firstly as a clinical depressant. she is currently learning self-actualisation skills
she feels the talk therapy is coming to the same conclusion and no change is really being made (much to the disagreement of her doctor) and also far too costly and would prefer to go another route. learning about hypnotherapy she feels this is where she would like to take it and try.

So if she is coming to you for confidence and motivation issues then you should address it from that aspect.

Ask her what she feels would be the optimum outcome of the hypnosis session, (aka what does she want to happen?)

Ask; If she could change any specific thing in the past that contributed the most to her issue, what would that be? and how would she change it if she could?

When she give you the answers, you will have the guidance you need to know how to proceed with her.

Just using from what you have described here, I would lean toward regression first. Change what needs to be changed, and then have her experience a more confident and empowered life with those changes in place. (future pacing)

I hope this helps you.

It's good news that she is being "released" from her psychiatrist. It's also good news for you to hear that she has made progress, despite her own presentation. You can use her success as a starting point for your work together!

Remind her that in order to make change, several things need to happen:

1. She needs to realize that change is necessary. This occurs when a person is fed up with their current state.
2. She needs a clear, desired outcome. Without a destination, the map is useless.
3. She needs to have motivation for change. What will be different in her life once she has met her stated goal? Why does she want this change?
4. She needs to have belief that she CAN change. We can build belief from a couple of directions; from the past, revivifying past successes and from the future, envisioning future success.
5. She needs a plan. This is where you assign "homework" wherein she builds her success step by step, each one adding to the next.
6. She needs to take action. Help her make a commitment to change and give her the tools to start and then stay on course.

See, it's easy!

Best wishes,

Kelley
What is your own evaluation of this case, and what was your first idea of treatment, when she was facing you?
