Having never done any illegal downloads, the email title: Your internet access is going to get suspendedI was suspicious straight away! A look around the web suggests there is a virus in the attachment (don't open it if you get this email)!

The mail is 'clever' since the title can grab your attention.

Thanks for the warning.
When your email and/or website becomes well known, emails like this are common. They are "phishing" to either get you to provide personal information OR to download a virus that may contain various types of malware.

Delete these emails...or, if in doubt, go to the website of the alleged sender (do NOT click on any links in the email) and go to their security section to see where to send such fraudulent emails. For example, PayPal has "spoof@paypal.com" and banks have similar emails to send scam emails. In the VERY unlikely event that the email is legitimate, the institution will let you know IF you send it to the correct location.

Also note that no reputable site will ever email you asking for personal information; so it is advisable to never open any attachments no matter how legitimate they seem (unless you are expecting an attachment from someone you know). Even when friends send me an attachment, I do not open them unless I am expecting the attachment; this is because an unexpected attachment from a friend a couple of years ago cost me my hard drive. (He had a virus that automatically sent itself to everyone in his email file.)

Thanks Roy,
I have deleted my email after I realized it was a spam, since the sender email and my email were the same, and that is why I am posting the warning here, most people will fall for it. I also wrote an article about it :)

Thanks for the warning good to know...

Hello Jay ,

Roy is correct and you are correct too, I know people who send viruses to get more business as well.
And some do it to steal our identity and that is why the virus crashes our computer, It iis to lose any trace of them.

Respectfully, Doreen Cohanim
Ian, I think you meant something different than Roy. What Roy was advising, if I read his post correctly, is that when you get mail like this that claims to be from a specific service provider, is go to the service provider's website yourself (via your own link or bookmark) to take steps to verify that the mail is illegitimate. You're right that it's not generally advisable to try and trace illegitimate mails back to some criminal person.

As a general rule, throw away any such mail that does not address you personally. Any service provider you're signed up with knows your real name and they'll use it in e-mails.
(In some cases spammers can guess your real name, so a real name is not a foolproof guarantee that the mail is real, but a mail that has a generic salutation is virtually never any good.

I stand by my post. If you carefully read what Roy wrote, he even included an example: spoof@paypal.com
Paypal is not an ISP.
I think he was talking about spoofed mails in general, and spoofed Paypal mails seem to be among the most common ones, so they are a good example if you take this discussion to be about spoofed mails in general and not about spoofed mails that are specifically about ISPs.
Ian Jay said:
Roy never mentioned ISPs!
No, he didn't. He talked about spoofing/phishing in general... which was kind of my point.
Ian Jay said:
That being the case, we are both rowing the same boat.
Yes?
Quite possibly... which would mean we're wasting our time talking about it. So let's talk about something else now:

Adrian, is that a dickhead?!
