I have my first session coming up for weight management/loss with a child. Does anyone use any different techniques when working with children in this area (he is 10 years old, and needs to lose about 50 lbs.) than they do with adults? His doctor has stated there is no medical anomaly, and a nutritionist has worked with the family and stated that the home diet appears healthy. So... any ideas for specific child friendly suggestions?

Hi Linda - the first question that comes to my mind is where is he getting the extra calories? Most importantly, make sure you have the whole family involved. You can't have dad & mom picking him up after the session and taking him to McDonald's after a session because they don't have time to make dinner.

See if you can get the whole family involved in the exercise component as well - try not to have him singled out from everyone else.

If you go to my web site and click on the childhood obesity tags (maybe its children & hypnosis) - you might find some useful ideas there.

Keep us posted on how this goes.

Thanks Roger, The extra calories appear to be coming at school (a veritable junk food paradise), and Mom is coming to do sessions as well for the same issue. I haven't interviewed her in depth, but her phone consultation indicated that portion control is her biggest issue, and I suspect that may be part of her son's problems as well (esp. if she is dishing up the food). I like your idea about getting the whole family involved in an exercise program and not singling him out. And I'm on my way to your website as soon as I finish typing this reply.
