HypnoThoughts.com

the Free Hypnosis Social Network

I received this email and I can't figure it out.

In the event my account is deleted, thanks for the memories.

"Hello Devin,

I notice you have been settling in here at hypnothoughts, and making a good impression.

I hope you continue to do so, as I am sure you will continue to become a very valuable member of the community.

I am however, also becoming aware that you are a marketer of hypnotic products, through various websites, who is building a list of potential customers.

So far I don't have a problem with that, no rules have been broken and nobody else has raised the issue. So I am just for the moment letting you know that I am keen that things stay on the right side of the line.

Love and hugs,

Fable"

*****************************************************************************

I am not selling anything to anyone on this site and every single post I made here proves that.

I am fascinated in hypnosis and am looking to spend time with people here who are like-minded and would like to be considered to be interviewed, receiving publicity, a recommendation or help in product creation.

"no rules have been broken and nobody else has raised the issue"

So why the email and what issue?

The people on this forum are absolutely amazing and in the brief amount of time that I've been here I have received a compliment, great advice on creating paraliminal audios, recorded an awesome interview with a brilliant new friend that I met on this site (Michael Ellner, thanks for the referrals !) , generated awesome content for my subscribers (people who have signed up to receive free access to interviews I've done with hypnotherapists, EMDR therapists, Brainwave Entrainment experts), and am anxious to generate more friendships with additional qualified specialists looking for exposure to a specifically targeted audience.

In the event that I am doing something wrong by passionately participating in a forum while learning more about a topic that is endlessly fascinating to me and simultaneously promoting the work of people who are in a profession that deserves additional support and respectful exposure then I shall obligingly delete my account here.

-Devin

p.s. its no fable...
I am guilty of having various websites that generate hypnosis customers.

Hi Dev,

Keep on keeping on-

Fable didn't accuse you of anything. He was just letting you know that he was paying attention and that he is aware of the potential for abuse.

FYI -- In the last several months a poster offered lots of free stuff and quickly crossed the line and became abusive. Thankfully he was kicked off the island...

Hi Michael!

I have been gobbling you up on Youtube! You rock! I love your passion and fearlessness and ability to cut to the heart of the matter. I am super anxious to have you talk more and with greater specificity on how you help people get unstuck and on how hypnosis works! You have TONS of knowledge and people are hungry for great content... Perhaps you would be into speaking about getting unstuck with a particular ailment and then I transcribe it as an ebook? Geez, lets talk again soon!

As for Fable...love and hugs.

Devin,

To echo what Michael said, there have been abuses on this site, so Fable's just doing his job looking out for us. He does a really good job of that, so you can be certain that he's not going to treat you unfairly.

Welcome to Hypnothoughts,

James
Fable is a remarkable hypnotherapist, in addition to being a truly lovely human being. He's also one of HypnoThoughts' moderators.

In that capacity, Fable is gently pointing out that HypnoThoughts' founder and sugar daddy, Scott Sandland, does not allow HypnoThoughts to be used like Craigslist. There's no free advertising allowed here, with one exception. You can promote hypnosis or NLP trainings in the Hypnosis Trainings Bulletin Board.

One of the reasons you may be so attracted to HypnoThoughts is the high caliber of this community. HT is the 800-pound gorilla of hypnosis-related social networks. HT has thousands more members, and insanely higher traffic, than any other hypnosis or NLP site in existence. Scott's advertising policy--policed by Scott, Richard Clark, Fable and a couple of other moderators--has a great deal to do with that.

Generally speaking, a post that sounds promotional-ish and includes a call to action is going to smell like an ad. And the moderators will step in and send you an email like the one you received. (In fact, I thought your other post about free advertising was over the line, but I've been accused of being over the line myself, so there you are.)

Welcome to HypnoThoughts.

Kathleen
Of the three active moderators on HypnoThoughts, Fable is far and away the best detective. He is thoughtful and diligent in his commitment to helping making this network a welcoming community.

Part of that job is to stay ahead of things, and stop problems before they even exist. When he saw your affiliate relationships with people we have had a problem with in the past (with other affiliates, not the individual himself) and the "free publicity" post you put up, Fable was just making sure you were aware of the no advertising policy on this site, which is quite a bit different from other hypnosis sites (for example, we don't allow people to promote free things in the discussion forum or blogs, etc.).

To be clear, over 70% of the moderation time on this site is spent enforcing the advertising policy. This sites policy differentiates it from all the others, which is confusing to many at first but is also one of the things that makes this site great.

Most of the time when people violate the policy it's because they didn't know about it or didn't think their post was a violation. Many people feel a little offended or get their feathers ruffled when we first send them a message like the one you received. In fact, Richard Nongard was almost kicked off this site the second day he was here for promoting his products (boy am I glad we got that straightened out). Once people settle in and get a feel for it, they tend to really appreciate how strict our advertising policy is. We aren't perfect about enforcing it all the time, but I'm very proud of the job Fable, Richard, and I do. It's quite a bit of work that, when done well, goes unseen.

Fable's message was one that he and I discussed before he sent it. The goal was to be a gentle nod towards the advertising policy and to encourage you to continue to respect it and be a welcome member of this great community. If you have any questions about it you can feel free to contact any of the moderators directly. We have a very open door policy here, which I think you will come to appreciate. As Fable mentioned in his email to you, nobody has complained to us about you directly. Often times when someone violates a rule, we get a half dozen complaints (some from members letting us know of a transgression, others from people complaining that "you are letting them get away with it and you deleted my message. this isn't fair..." etc)

If you read the advertising policy and disagree with it, you are of course welcome to leave. We understand we can't please everyone and respect your decision whatever you choose. That said, we'd much rather have you here contributing quality insights and connecting with peers than to leave frustrated.

Hope this clears that up.

Talk to you soon,
Scott
Actually, Paula discovered hypnothoughts, and set up the account - as me - becasue I refuse to participate in online forums since my typing skills make me look like a moron. And so for the first month, I never ever even had logged on, until finally she called me while traveling to ask me what she should post regarding a stage hypnosis debate. What she told me sounded interesting, and so I logged onto the site myself, and have been VERY happy ever since - even though I am sure I still come accross as a third grader to those who do not know me....
So technically it was Paula who was posting as me, who almost got kicked off.
However, I am sure many people wish I had been kciekd off and still do... LOL
That being said, I never promote in the forums, blogs and other areas, unless I am paying for an ad, answering a specific question that the writer has asked for or it is in the training bullitin board...

Other than my magic forum, this is the only online forum you will find me participating in....
Exactly, Doc

Look who's got his website embeded in his profile name, and look down their store profile page. And don't call that advertising. xD
Lot's of things get embedded in profile names, Hypnotiki, Like the world's fastest hypnotist, Hypnogoddess such and such and other catch phrases. That actually doesn't violate the advertising policy, which is actually quite liberal, Self promotion is not a problem, neither are odd ball names to remain anonymous. Those little ads on the right are for sale and surprisingly.. most of us want to know about good products and sites. We don't however want spam shoved down our throats. The intersting thing is that folks with a good reputation for making quality posts and intelligent discussions tend to sell product related to thier field of expertise, More importantly ,,, they tend to develop a network of folk who say good things about them, which sells a whole bunch more product. Spammers on the other hand tend to reap what they sow and in the big pictue tend to have less of a reputation than desired.
Fable is a treasure here and his smooth non obtrusive style is greatly appreciated by long time hypno thoughts members. I am excited to find out what interesting thoughts HypnoTiki will bring to Hypnothoughts. Afterall that is the purpose of the forum .... to share and discuss ideas related to Hypnosis,
