Well with my first show coming up soon, I am faced with the big question that all females face on important dates, What do I wear?? I want to be dressy and professional, yet spunky and fun, I don't know what to wear and it's tearing me apart. Thought about a nice dress, I don't wear dresses so this is a huge thing for me... Then I thought something more cassual and fun. Yet I really want to remain formal and Professional any suggestions on what I could wear for my first stage show.....?

Hi Amanda, First of all congratulations, second all advises are great, now my add on advice to you, deliver the real you, you will be looking best and feeling best, remember it is all about you and personality is important and it does show in the way you dress up, maybe a little dressy but still make sure it represents you.

If you are not a dress person, I will be cautions.... you want to be comfortable....

Good Luck and post your videos :)

Sheila gave great advice.

If you want to be a bit unusual, another choice might be a sarong or a silk kimono.

Silk is a great natural fabric. Looks great, feels great, and it can maintain very vivid colors.
Dress slacks, colored shirt and a vest. Easy to put together, looks professional enough, easy to move in, and easy to accessorize. I would also go with a low heeled shoe (kitten heels?)

I hope that helps

Black...wear black.
You want to blend into the background and disappear .
Remember, your audience dont want to watch you, they want to watch your volunteers.

The show is not about you, but everyone on stage.

Best of luck.

Yup! I agree with Chris completely. It seems to me that black stands out enough when you are alone on stage (pre-talk, call for volunteers etc.) but blends nicely into the background once your volunteers are on stage in all their usual "going out" clothes. Unless it's a party of goths of course......
Good luck,

I would wear something comfortable because you'll be moving around and you don't want to get in a funny position.

I wear certain outfits depending on the event..I usually wear a nice pair of dress pants with a jacket or suit with a nice colored shirt.I have different tops and colors for certain occassions. Shoes... my heels are not too high but a lower heel just in case i need to move quickly..

You never know when a volunteer will move off a chair and you need to act quickly ...always be prepared for the unexpected...

I had a show in laughlin and wanted to dress really classy in front of 2500 people a convention. I had high heels, a sequin beautiful dress and I felt so uncomfortable I almost broke a ankle and I felt I was on stilts...and I was cautious how I was walking and It hinder my show ...my show was great but I felt funny throughout the show ...I needed to feel at ease, comfortable during the show ..Dress what feels comfortable to you.........Good luck!!
I have tended to wear black, like a lot of performers. That said, I'd vote for fast shoes that have rubber soles for traction, and pants you can move around quickly in, as if someone is about to fall out of their chair, you need to be there in a flash.
I've seen female Stage Hypnotists, wear very high heels and short dresses, looks great, but not practical for the stage as much, catching a falling someone, or picking them up, if you had to, unless your show is completely seated for most of the program. I know it is not.

I am on tour right now Amanda, and some of the advice here is good. However I will throw my opinion in the mix.

First wear black, other dark colors aside from brown work well too. The simple reason is you do want to fade away during the show while the volunteers are performing. Aside from that, bright colors dont usually video tape well and can be very distracting unless you have the personality to pull them off..

Blouses sleeved or not. however you have to make the choice to be conservative or not... My 2 cents is go high neck no sleeves. you can wear a jacket that can be removed if hot and bending over which you will be doing you will not flash anyone. Also dressing conservatively will give you more credibility and make you look a bit older and more polished.

Slacks are vital. Koollots (sp) are great (blousy pantaloons or draped pants) form fitting is fine, however flexibility is a must... If I have an assistant she is bending over squating down picking up props and people occasionally.. If I dont I am...

Shoes... This for me is mandatory for my assistants chunky heels or flats.. Absolutely no pumps... you need to be stable on your feet.

Makeup and Hair: Stay professional and simple. If you have the hair and the skill go big other wise go simple.... Do not do anything you have never done before for your show.... A bad hair day before you walk on stage is never good..
