I am curious to know what peoples favorite inductions are? Do you have a different preferance for stage vs clinical? Or just for fun with friends? For me I have found I enjoy doing fixation inductions and I am getting fascinated with instant inductions.

My favorite instant is John Cerbone's Butterfly Induction, It is so creative and the guy is just

My favorite self induction is holding my breath until vertigo kicks in.

My favorite clinical is the arm raise
My favorite induction is the one that is most effective for my client at the time.

Okay, having got that out of my system--I really like to revivify a pleasant experience. I usually frame it as a self-hypnosis method for my clients. It's great at free demos, because I can anchor the pleasurable state, enhance it with a sliding anchor, and then fire the anchor when the volunteer is thinking of a less-pleasant obligation. So I'm able to demonstrate how hypnosis can help someone in a pretty short span of time.

For stage, I'm working on an induction based on hand clasp and eye catalepsy. It's a lot more dramatic for the audience and has tests/convincers built in to help me whittle my volunteer group down to the best.

When it comes to rapids, I know at least a dozen, but Cerbone's Butterfly Induction is usually my default.

I also love doing Otto's Vertigo Induction--I even made a video of it. (One of my two vids on this site, so it should be easy to find.)
Hi there Karena,

I am fairly new to hypnosis but have been listening to all sorts of people's cd's for many years myself :) I have actually modified an induction i was given at my training with other bits and pieces from other scripts i have purchased... i have gotten a feeling for what has really worked for me and taken it from there - i also am getting really good at ad libbing! I feel what the client is responding to and make sure i keep kinda doing that, make sense???

Anyway, just trust that you have what it takes and start using any good induction - i get a lot of my scripts, etc from Hypnotic World..... you will find that things will get clearer the more and more you do it :)

Interesting question.
An Elman induction would get my vote.

I use a modified Elman induction. Works very well for the majority of my clients.

Since you will induce a trance state by having the subject focus their mind inside of themselves, all you have to do then is suggest, and deepen. To prove this out, after getting someone's permission to hypnotize them, tell them first that you want to test how quick their mind works. Ask them what year they were in the 6th grade. When they go inside to figure it out, (you can tell by their expression when they do) just give the sleep command and snap your fingers. If they are thinking out loud at the time (i.e. "now lets see I was..") just interrupt them with your sleep command. You don't have to yell or touch them. Then just deepen. Learn to identify existing trance states and this becomes ever so easy.

I hope this helps you

John,

Love it. I am going to use that.

Excellent John - I like it!!! Definitely going to have a play with that! I like pattern interrupts and that is a really nice application.

I've been playing (again) recently with stacking ... based on the idea that the the conscious mind can keep focus on only a certain number of things. This was the induction that worked with me during my training years back (it blew me away compared with all the other stuff we were experimenting with). You just keep adding things for the person to focus on (in parallel ... all at the same time e.g. can you feel the bottom of your feet as you remember to listen to the sound of my voice ... and make sure you don't forget to feel what your the back of your seat feels like ... etc.) ... I do it with eyes open as a "test" for my clients to "see what their ability stay focused on many things is" ... and I just keep adding until you get that hypnotic eye blink ... and just suggest they close their eyes.

Awesome. I will check out the link. I am also definately getting good ideas here on the many ways that trance can be induced. John yours is definately an interesting one.
Without a doubt, it would be the My Friend John induction.
The Gil Boyne standing induction..awesome!!!
Bruce--check out John's book and his color expectancy induction. I got a chance to field test the induction recently, and it works very well.
