close your eyes and make it sooo relax that they will not work. and when you're sure they wont, test it.

All elman is around this.

i still feel uncomfotable whit it, even if i did ( with sucess ) some elman inductions.

maybe as i m pertty analytical, i just do it as an hypnotee by compliance ( meaning: ok let's make a white lie an go ahead) , i m not convinced , my intent get loose etcetcetc....

and the more the elmann induction is modified to be quick, the more uncomfortable i feel about it.

So, if you culd explain me why it should work or if Before you have to place some kind of seeding to prepare that piece i would be really thankfull;)
Hello Philipppe,

Great observation and I completely agree with you. Dave Elman has contributed to our profession in many great ways, but this “eye closure” equals hypnosis idea just doesn’t make sense. I hope that any one reading this right now will test it themselves.

Go ahead. Close your eyes. Relax your eyelids so much that they just won’t work. Now test them to make sure that they won’t work. Are you in deep hypnosis? Light hypnosis? Anything hypnosis? I don’t think that this is a valid test for hypnosis. I believe that it IS a valid test for two other things, compliance and the ability to relax a part of the body when instructed to do so.

The real brilliance of the Elman style inductions is the “losing the numbers” part of the induction. Here the subject/client is instructed to keep relaxing her mind as she counts outloud until the numbers are gone. Done right, this is a valid test for at least the “Threshold of Somnambulism”. This is because losing the numbers is actually a case of creating amnesia by suggestions.

This is an excellent topic question. I believe that I have covered it briefly in a past episode, but I’m thinking that I really should dedicate a whole episode to this and my version of the Elman Induction (in which I update it and make it more reliable).

Thanks again,
Cal
