True Enough
September 25, 2009
Documentaries are supposed to represent the truth. But who decides what the truth is exactly? Patricia Aufderheide, professor and documentarian, explains a new effort to interview documentary filmmakers anonymously about their ethical lapses. She hopes that by understanding the extent of the problem the documentary community can come to some consensus on where the truth lies.

Truth itself is a hard edged line. When people start playing with the facts, it makes that hard edge look blurry. Then its time to take off the spectacles grimed with bias and clean them. Truth is not a matter of consensus because that means it would be no more than a common opinion. Sometimes there is a wish truth were different. When some live a life of crossing lines, sometimes the truth seems not to be a friend. Some documentarians have personally made millions while their films actually failed at the box office. Every ask yourselves this, "how can that be". The answer is by catering to special interests trying to obscure the facts that do not represent their own agendas.

Call me a Cynic but I bet the professor is getting taxpayer dollars to do the research and that it will be a whitewash at best.

Cheerful thoughts...
