Do you find it hard to relate to other types of hypnosis.
I am just now learning other types, like Elman and so forth. But i am still prone to like Kappas method the best. I have been given a lot of slack about it though....
Have you?

I have not schooled anywhere else in Hypnosis, but HMI....
So i am somewhat biased. LOL

Thanks for sharing anything you can, in advance.

Jill,

Snice I started studying on my own long before I found HMI. I feel comfortable doing other types of hypnosis as well.

There is other school there in cal. that teaches what is called 5 path. I look forward to learning 5 path when the time comes for me to study it. I know that HMI dose not like age regression, but should be able to work retrogression with 5 path as well.

Haveing more tools in your tool box is what going to make us great at hypnosis. And that means learning diffrent kinds of hypnosis. So don't let others get you down. If you are very comfortable with Kappas style of hypnosis then stay with it.

I am very comfortable, because that is all i know. LOL It's the only method that i have learned. However I am studying and looking into others as well, just so i know what the heck others are talking about. I will have to look into the 5 path. My problem is.... i am in school for my Masters in Professional Counseling. I won't have all that much time to look into other schooling for a while. It's all i can do to stay up with school full time. It will all be worth it when it's over. LOL

Also, I do a lot of work with "Inner Child", which is 'like' regression, but safe. It builds NEW script as a youngster. I love the theory and it works wonders. I use it more than any other modality.

Thanks for being supportive.
Jill, good for you. if you are interested in checking into 5 path check out www. banyanhypnosismall.com you can either buy it and do an home study of go to Cal's class. For me I belive that I will buy it and study it at home. Cal also have a book that I have on my list to read,"The secret language of feeling". He also has an yoahoo group with the same name that you can go to and listen to his podcasts that will go along with his book.

Doug
I am studying 5-path at home right now. It is very good!
Thank you very much.
I will have to check into it.
Blessings~
It goes on sale every so often. I think I got 10% off.
i am looking into this now, but it's going to be hard to find extra time. I am in full time college now for psychotherapy to use with hypnosis.
Hi, I'm new here but thought I would add my comments. I recently graduated from the HMI distance education program. I had studied hypnosis onmy own for several years before taking this course so I don't have any problem relating to other approaches. In fact, I was a little disappointed that HMI did not teach more about other approaches just so their students knew enough about other approaches to better appreciate the HMI methods. (Personally, I prefer Elman inductions to the arm raising but I have been using Elman inductions a lot longer.)

The comments about Banyan's 5-PATH method are also interesting becuase I am currently taking that home study course. There are a lot of hypnosis schools that don't like his abreactional approach but it does work. As soon as I am finished with Cal Banyan's course, I plan on taking Ron Eslinger's course on Hypno-Anesthesia for Pain Management. Then I will probably take some time off from studies.

I have also taken some criticism from other hypnotists because of HMI (they seem to feel HMI is not keeping up with the times, which may be a valid criticism). But the important thing is helping people. If you help people resolve problems, who cares what type of induction you are using or where you went to school. Its the results that count.

Dan
Hi Dan,

Please let us know what you think of Ron Eslinger's course on Hypno-Anesthesia for Pain Management. Thanks for your comments. Happy New Year!

Darren
welcome to the group Dan.

Like you I have studied on my own as well before finding HMI. And like you, I have been disappointed to a point in some of HMI teaching. I prefer D.S. hypnosis myself, but am glad that I am taking the HMI course.

As far as inductions goes, I love Cal's 8 word induction. Here is a link so those of you who don't know it can read about it. http://www.hypnosiscenter.com/free-article-the-eight-word-hypnotic-...

Hello, I have to say that before HMI i didn't know anything about hypnosis. I basically thought it was deep relaxation....So basically It's the only thing I know well.... I have been practicing Kappas methods only for about two years and have had good results, but then i had one person who thought the arm raising was so silly, It's like he thought it was a joke. I found that to be really frustrating, while i did still manage to get him under using other methods, that is the reason i decided to really do some homework and learn other methods, was because of that exact reason. Some people really think that their arm will be lifted by some force.... they won't just always go along. As George says "if they don't listen - Hurt em". Of course he laughed at the point, and it was funny, but i still find it a little odd.

I currently have the 5 path and have been watching some of the training. I am in some conflict over age regression, but i understand where Cal Banyan is coming from too. I don't know if i will do that method or not. I have to practice, which is the only way i will find out.

I do like the alternative inductions and I personally am not sure which one i will eventually stick with, but so far, i have the kappas one down, so i don't want to screw it up too much. LOL I do like the Elman induction and the Elman-Banyan, but i normally do not have a problem using HMI's methods either. I did feel HMI was quite a bit out dated, and I really hope they and give some continuing education type of updates for their graduates.

It's great to see all the different opinions here. The one thing i do want to add is.... if anyone took just the foundations course and not the advanced, the basic foundations just doesn't do justice to the advanced courses. I couldn't have had the confidence i do with out the advanced courses. But it was the fact that they offered the basics for free that lead me into this career.

Blessings~
I also had one client who thought the arm raising was silly and did not want to cooperate. I resported to a hand-drop rapid induction that literally slammed him into trance so fast I had to catch him before he fell out of the chair. After that, working with him was easy. I think the real problem was that I probably didn't do a good pre-talk with him so he didn't know how to respond to the arm raising. It was about that time that I went back to using an Elman induction routinely.
