Comment by Michelle Braun on January 18, 2012 at 7:38am Article from the Durk Pearson and Sandy Shaw site, Life Enhancement, regarding taking 5-HTP as a supplement when stopping or even during smoking. While their catalog and articles are geared towards selling supplements, they are normally spot-on, but this would have to be w/a physician's order for our use.

Comment by George Guarino on January 10, 2012 at 8:06pm Trevor you're a great man to be as open and honest with this group as you have been. Reaching out for help and feedback in your heartfelt manner is wonderful and a benefit to us all. Please, always remember that it's not about you... it's about your client. You are both doing perfectly right now, right here. They will 'tell' you what they need. Feed it back to them. You are the hypnotist! Be well. G
Thanks so much for everyones feedback ...it is really very helpful. However reading my questions again I was actually making myself out to be worse than I probably am. I have helped many people stop smoking, but others not and I guess the last one was so dissapointing , when it did not work. I have NGH approved training and have gotten some great feedback after just 12 months in the business. I am looking to improve all the time and will assure you will take everyones feedback on board. I alwats strive for the utmost professionalism inwhat I do and I reached out for help to my fellow collegues here today. I deleted my questions becuase I was perhaps too honest for a public forum like this, Thanking you again, Trevor

Since you asked the same questions in the "Fans of John Cleesattels stop smoking intervention" group, and I answered them in detail there, I will ask you that you go there to read it instead of me re-posting the whole thing here.

Comment by Juan Acosta on January 10, 2012 at 2:27pm Trevor,
In addition to what AJ said, I would suggest that you worry a little less about the process and the structure and more about going there with your client. If you have an outline of the structure you want so you don't forget something important, that's great. But too rigid a "schedule" may be jarring. Let your client fully experience what you have to offer. Personally I would break those sessions into increments of about 1 hour. Much longer than that is draining for you and the client and IMO less effective.
If they say they don't feel anything, you can deepen them and play with some hypnotic phenomena that will serve as a convincer of their ability to be hypnotized as well as your ability to help them. As a simple example, when you show them that their hand can be completely stuck to their head just by thinking about it, it's easier for them to find that their mind is receiving and accepting your suggestions. It's good for you and good for your client. Whether or not you yourself are convinced, will be projected onto your client... So test them.
Hope that helps. Good luck. Giving up is NOT an option! :-)
Comment by docregal.com on January 10, 2012 at 1:02pm From the sounds of your post, Trevor, I wonder if you are deeply hypnotizing your clients. One must successfully imagine his desired outcome to achieve it with hypnosis. Consider going slower and obtaining more compliance before proceeding with suggestions.

Thanks!
George, thanks for your interest. I've done three smoking cessations since my last post here. I have to say that I do go into every hypnosis session displaying the utmost in confidence, just as I communicate that confidence to the subjects in the pre-talk. It's only when I follow up with them after the completion of the cessation work that I learn the work hasn't been completely effective; I'm still following up with two clients who haven't completely quit. But -- that doesn't stop me from radiating the same complete confidence to new subjects. I think that's crucial. Whenever any prospective client asks me about my success rate with smokers, I simply say that it's 100% with people who really wanted to quit. Which I believe it is.
Of the three, two haven't smoked in the intervening week. The third was a disaster, frankly. He came along to accompany another cessation client, told me that his desire to quit was at 8 out of 10 in the pre-talk phase, so I extended the session and did his work first. When I came out with the second client after finishing the session, the first guy was out on the porch -- having a cigarette. Oh well. Client #1 has returned to his out-of-town home and won't be around to "contaminate" client #2.
BTW, I live in Vancouver, British Columbia -- BC is, as some of you may be aware, possibly the marijuana capital of the world. (It is not uncommon to experience the familiar odour on city streets; no one has been arrested here for public pot smoking in years, AFAIK, whereas tobacco smoking in public parks is illegal and can attract large fines.) So far, every tobacco cessation client has asked me to refrain from removing their desire to smoke pot!! I do advise them to switch to baked goods like pot brownies, to break the inhalation reflex, and have tailored my inductions to meet the subjects' requirements. Does anyone else deal with this issue and have helpful hints?
Comment by George Guarino on October 20, 2011 at 5:22am Congrats Orion. Doesn't that feel great!
I love the ones you meet later on who say, "Well, the hypnosis didn't work, I didn't feel a thing, but I just stopped smoking anyway" After 40 years of smoking!
All you can do is smile and nod.
Be well. G
Comment by Orion Hypnosis Group on October 19, 2011 at 11:05pm Thank you to all of you in helping me find the best of the best methods that I can use to help my soon to be non smoking clients stay that way long term!
Good news, I did track down the boy friend of a girl I hypnotized to help her stop smoking about 15 years ago. That is back before I really knew what I was doing. But it worked,,,she has never started smoking again. I wish I still had our script that her and I wrote out together but I don't. However, I used the "Five Session Approach" of Helen H Watkins, M.A. . You can find it on on page 413 of the Handbook of Hypnotic Suggestions and Metaphors An American Society of Clinical Hypnosis Book. 1990. I plan to have lots of success stories 15 years from now! I hope we all do ! Thanks guys! Your friend Orion.
