Wondering of people's experiences with people with Parkinsons and/or dementia?

Got a call today from the wife of a 77 yo man--he has Parkinsons and is
dealing with rigidity and balance issues. Also some confusion and memory
loss. The main reason she called now is because he is having some
significant balance/stability issues that she thinks is related to
having recently failed a driving test. So 1) had a humiliating
experience with the driving test; 2) has been asked to give up his
license; 3) has had increased instability that she thinks is related to
the trauma of failing the driving test.

All these factors are obviously key to working with him, but wondering
if people have had specific successes or challenges with clients with
Parkinson's or dementia?  His doc and pt are supportive of him coming in
for hypnotherapy. But I am seeking some stories. Things to watch for,
avoid, be mindful of?

I haven't met or talked with him yet, so that will help determine my
approach. I feel there are grief and loss issues as well as being able
to help him with body relaxation and related pain (arthritic). Stability
and balance seem like they will be impt goals. Not sure about
supporting him with regards to driving--that's being monitored
elsewhere, but if it is one of his goals, I need to pay attention to
that.

Wife was very excited abt my expressing how wonderful our inner healers
are and very keyed in to his recent significant worsening of balance
being related to failing the driving test. Which, or course, signals a
huge loss of control/agency in a literal as well as metaphorical way. Of
course that is devastating.

Thanks for any thoughts,
Best,
Samuel
