BEREAVEMENT THERAPY

Bereavement is not necessarily about losing a loved one. It can be anything that shatters you to the point where your life feels like a puzzle with the pieces scattered to the four winds. How can we help?

Loss Comes in Many Forms

I was thinking about how loss can be present at so many different levels and how we each react to it. For example, for some, the loss of a pet for one person can be tantamount to the loss of a human…

Hi Paul:

I luv your reminder to be careful of the facial shifts and the prayer is beautiful. I have included prayers in my hypnosis but I let the client lead me into the wording because its not always easy to tell if someone is Christian or not. I find many clients are spiritual or want to be more spiritual but if they display uncertainty of the name they want to give their beliefs I always use the word Universe or Universal Love.

When they lead me and I follow to a discussion of prayer they sometimes conveythe word prayer is not strictly what they mean I refer them to the work of Larry Dossey

Prayer used in Trance: http://www.blessyourthoughts.com/prayer.htm

This prayer may not be everyone's theology, so adjust this so there is no conflict of beliefs... I feel the emotional component of how we get stuck is very important... this being my perspective, if you use this prayer in trance, move as slowly as possible from line to line, watching for facial expressions to display a resolution. I've taught classes using this prayer... the most important point to the new practitioner is to be sensitive to facial shifts, and move no faster than facial and body language would indicate emotional processing occurs.

Joy can be, here, now.

There appears to be a process which we learn our emotions, while drifting off to sleep.

The child who has waited all day for Daddy to say I love you, feeling if they wait long enough, are patient enough and does not complain... A child can eventually create a despair of waiting for Daddy to simply say "I love you".

The child doesn't know that Daddy has 2 jobs is overwhelmed and simply is too busy to say I love you (or however that situation goes).

This is one simple description of how an emotional fixation is embedded. Feeling alone, feeling lost, culmination: loss of accomplishments.

A woman at age 50 came for session work. At age 12 her Father raped her. Her night mares so full of terror, she had to get out of bed and walk around the room before going back to sleep, or she would enter the same nightmare.

Kelly, this simple "I love you, I'll never leave you, and you can depend on me" with the expectation of waking with joy...

When we see this land, it's the new life! New actions, new optimism, new exchanges of love for those around us. A miracle, we can share daily. Yes, for us, we can enter session work (with another hypnotherapist perhaps) to learn the expectation of waking with the new feeling... Which do you want... the feeling of Love or Joy or Happiness or Optimism... speaking to that child, which of those do you want, when you wake?

Grief Bereavement turned to joy. Tis the season.

Paul, I integrated your 2 Choice process with a client recently and it worked marvelously! The session involved peeling away several decades of layers of loss and grief and the final episode featured both the Adult and Child contemplating and anticipating the JOY of the next morning. Thank you so much; you helped change a person's life! :) Kelley

Paul, I love your approach. 2 choices, either of which is compelling. I'm off to read your Brief Grief. Thank you so much for sharing! Kelley

Kelly, the redirection to joy is an interesting concept.

Has nothing to do with getting a new car for Christmas!

I believe the reason emotions fail, and then prevail over actions is due to what the Behavioral Psychologists term "Associational Learning". Please refer to Brief Grief (13 pages) http://www.blessyourthoughts.com/ComplicatedGrief.doc

The redirection to JOY can be a 1st process... It's really easy when you see it .. So, here we go: in trance, establish two entities: Adult/Child between the two, have them talk to each other in a conversation where the adult encourages the child, and the child encourages the adult ... (the person is really role playing with themselves!)

Bring the conversation to: how would the child like to feel tomorrow morning when he/she wakes... give ONLY 2 CHOICES - choose between happiness and joy.

Then further embed the EXPECTATION the feeling of that choice grows BEFORE bedtime. If they go to sleep with joy, what will they wake with?

POOF! There's your MIRACLE! Joy upon waking!

It may take an hour to complete the negotiated agreement between the two entities, but I can almost guarantee a shift in emotional perspective and human interactions. -- a money back guarantee, the greater the expectation before sleep, the greater the emotional shift.

Tis the season for - Joy

Thank you, Paul. I agree wholeheartedly with the need to redirect to JOY. It seems most all hypno paths lead to that desired destination. I love your Christmas Grief idea; I had two calls just yesterday involving that issue as this is the season that it rears its emotional head...perhaps you would share some more of your insights in my discussion above?
Regards, Kelley

When I open session work, and I ask myself what is the most positive input, which I can begin to build on...

I feel it's the internal building, so the individual speaks to them self...

I love you, I'll never leave you, and you can depend on me.
(as speaking to their self)

We can parse this many ways - ego building or what ever you want to call it.

When we talk to ourselves and overwrite the emotional hurt of anger and fear to feel self love, and self security...

Our dreams change, our behavior changes and this can create the internal resource for great actions. Those actions can include the giving and receiving of love.

This is the redirection to focus on JOY

CHRISTMAS GRIEF: LOS ANGELES

Does anyone have a location in LA which would support a HYPNOTHERAPY Walk-in Clinic for Christmas Grief?

I've done this in Temecula, when I had newspaper coverage it was HUGE!

Anyone interested in taking this on with me?

A warm welcome to those of you who have recently joined. Wow, while I was away the group reached and exceeded 20 members - great! There are so many people who can benefit from all our experiences with loss of any kind; even if we make the occasional mistake, as long as we learn from it, it will eventually benefit someone. There is nothing more rewarding than to see a tormented person slowly revive and regain hope after a terrible blow. Thank you for all the great discussions so far, and keep them coming!
