Canadian Hypnotism Professionals

A place where Canadians (and friends of Canadians) can meet to discuss Hypnosis and NLP from a Canadian perspective.

Members: 28
Latest Activity: Mar 18

I have created this group to allow Canadian professionals in Hypnotism and NLP to have a place to gather, to discuss issues such as (but certainly not limited to); legislation that has been or might be passed that would affect how we practice; the unique-ness of our multi-cultural landscape, how to educate about it, and market hypnotism, to those who have chosen Canada as their home; and perhaps even how the wide range of weather we have here in Canada affects how we do business. Thought of a topic/question you'd like to discuss yet? Well, what are you waiting for?

The Rules

1. Please keep the comments section for just casual commenting or welcoming.
2. Please start a "Discussion" when asking a question, so that in future, others will be able to easily refer back to the information.
3. Be polite in your disagreements (any country with as many political parties as we have is bound to have them ;) ) - just remember - we are ALL neighbours, regardless that we may be shouting from one side of the country to the other.
4. Please contribute to, and definitely start, conversations.

I started a facebook page for my school. If anyone is interested in joining me there you will find the page under The Pacific Institute of Advanced Hypnotherapy. I've posted several links and articles etc.

Hi Don:

Thanks for jumping in and joining with us here. No, I won't kick you out, either, because I'm happy to see a new province being represented here, and as you said, you're 'learning'. ;) Besides, I could never boot someone who has butterflies on their web-site. ~~~ ^v^ ~~~

And, well, I've got a few good meat-loaf recipes... happy to share any time.

Hello all. Just joined and skimmed through a few past forums and...YIKES! I am very humbled by all the information I didn't have (or didn't seek would be more accurate). So, foremost, thank you all for sharing your wisdom and/or your unabashed queries.

I, myself, graduated from a hypnosis program in BC, attained my certification from the IMDHA, moved back to Calgary, and leapt off the nearest cliff of destiny I could find - arms spread wide and eyes closed grinning from ear to ear.

I printed business cards, brochures, flyers, started a website, rented a cozy room in an office with other like-minded individuals (reiki, cranial-sacral, massage, etc), and - sorry to say, Sheila - called myself ...here it goes...a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist. Please don't kick me out of the group. :)

I know I was seduced by the prestige the title offered, and I didn't want to think of the "politics" of doing what I do, so I adopted it. I just wanted to make people feel better. I wanted to see the magic that can occur when combining the techniques of hypnosis, the training in "therapy" - or consulting - and the power of the heart. I formed strong bonds with my clients that I will treasure always.

I just noticed that I have been using the past tense until now. Thankfully, I'm not foreshadowing some tragic event that has brought an end to my dream of being a Consulting Hypnotist (see - I'm learning). Instead, the past tense merely means that I plan to start anew and get this business moving!

I welcome all advice, tips, encouragement, meatloaf recipes, etc that any of you are willing to share.

Thank you all.

Hi Everyone:

With regard to recent discussions on this wall around Insurance, you might be interested in following (maybe even contributing to) the discussion I started about it on the "Discussions" forum here at HT.

Hi Candace:
I haven't received anything back from them yet - it doesn't specify "no regression" on the application. I'd think that would be pretty foolish for the NGH to agree to such a thing, unless it was specifically regarding "PLR" and not "age regression", which is a fairly common tool for most advanced hypnotists, and something I use frequently. I'm pretty sure Georgina Cannon (much revered by the NGH top level) uses the same one I've applied to, and her business is largely doing past-life regression. I'm not familiar with the one you mentioned, so cannot comment there.
Candace McLean Comment by Candace McLean on January 21, 2010 at 1:13pm
My understanding is that the liability coverage that you can get through the NGH does not cover regression. Is this the case? Is anyone familiar with The Natural Therapies Association of North America and their liability insurance plan? Apparently they do provide liability insurance for Hypnotherapists using regression. Do you know of others?

There is something I want to clarify regarding the Insurance I have been talking about - having spoken just now with an agent from the company, it is STRICTLY for NGH members - others apparently will have to look elsewhere (or join the NGH). I would suggest that if you belong to a different organization, that perhaps the leadership could also make similar arrangements as the NGH has with this, or another insurer, for coverage of members.

Thanks Sheila, will message you my email.
Congrats on your new office, that must be such a thrill!
I wish you great success on your expansion.
Errors & Omissions could come handy and it is the first time I hear of it being available. Reiki I'm not even sure it's even worth insuring for as Toronto has the Holistic Bylaw that demands you do Reiki in a holistic centre, hence the need for liability insurance, you are touching people. So I only do Reiki on friends/family.
Thanks for the information.

Sorry Kat - my bad - I'm so used to writing in computer jargon/shorthand, sometimes I forget others don't. :)

E&O = Errors and Omissions Insurance - which is different from physical Liability insurance, as it covers claims that may include mental/emotional issues, in the case of Hypnotists and even Psychologists.

NGH = National Guild of Hypnotists - seeing that many of you are from BC, and may be certified under a different organization, thought I'd better clarify that one, too.
