I conduct a lot of phone sessions and will be doing skype sessions as well. I am curious to know how well clients react to the video element. I would love to see a session to really get a feel for it. If anyone has any thoughts or feelings, please let me know.

Hi Colleen,
I have recently added Skype to the session work I do. So far it's been great and the clients seem to like it very much. I have also been using oovoo because it gives me the ability to record the sessions as well as have side by side windows on my screen. Most people have Skype now so it is my default client. Actually .. John Cheesattal has a few sessions posted to video on here and on youtube so you can see how it works on ooVoo,
It is a bit disconcerting when you can see yourself as others see you, but the feedback loop is very helpful and I find it improves my delivery as well.

Hi Hugh,
Thanks so much for the information. I will check out ooVoo as well. Most of my clients do not have skype, but would probably have no problem signing up since skype to skype is free. I will check out the sessions here and on Youtube as well. I think it would be a bit disconcerting to see myself, but so was hearing myself for the first time and that definitely helped me!

Hugh,
Do you use the high res on ooVoo or just the regular free video calls?

Thanks,
Colleen McKelvy, C.Ht.
I am using the free one right now, which is low res. It's my voice that is important not necessarily the picture, Whatever you do ... get a good webcam ...and a good mike. I have started using a headset mic to keep the mix close to my mouth because the volume changes on other mikes when I move my head,

Great! Thanks. I just wondered if the low res was good enough and I guess it is. Good advice on the mike.
There are other recording alternatives, Hugh. A number of screen capture programs will let you capture video chats with audio so you get the full screen or you can zoom in. A couple programs are specifically for Skype or MSN and they allow higher quality video captures with options for how you record (just one chat stream - local or nonlocal - or both streams side by side or one in a window).

If you're doing "room trances" then you'd have to decide which version is best (I just did a group chat last night on the SET Community site with four people and wish I'd tested recording on that).

Colleen,
Skype is a wonderful way to work with clients. I have done most of my practicing using skype. That is both as a trance partner and as the hypnotist. I suggest you come join us and start practicing. I am always game for a little tracing ( yeah shamefully admits I am quite a junkie). But in all seriousness, I have done all kinds of things on skype, including phobia cures, smoking cessation and even regression. Again except for the smoking I have been both on the receiving end and the giving end of those. I credit Skype for having given me not only a first class experience in learning hypnosis, but also treating issues of my own with a fellow hypnotist in training, who just like I live in an area where practice clients are not always easy to come by, nor is access to live trainings.

For me a camera is a must specially for my first sessions. It is a shame to limit yourself to observing a client with only auditory cues. I find using the camera addesa whole new demention, the only thing I can not do is to physically touch the client, but so far that hasn't stopped me from anchoring things. I have found a add on that will record voice from skype but still looking for a video recorder. Brian would you care to share a link for a DL of those programs? For the client to listen later it is not that important for me to have the video at this point , but I guess it could be good to have for other reasons. And of course if one wants to get certified thru Brian's SET, that could start supplying the needed videos for certification.
Hugh try checking for something known as skype call recorder. Its free software. Also its nice because I believe it can split the audio to two sides. Your voice on one side and the subject on the other channel.
