My friend (let's call him 'Wizard Wonka' ), is always looking for the easy way to do things:
One bright sunny, but cold morning in December, Wizard Wonka went into
his kitchen to find a big bowlful of washing up he’d forgotten to do the
night before. He'd felt tired after a rather long late night session on
'wizardthoughts.com' (the free online wizards community), and had gone
to bed without doing his chores.
Oh, well – he’d soon deal with the dishes.
“Abra-Cadabra!” he said, expecting all the cups and saucers and
plates to leap clean and dry on to the kitchen table. But they didn’t!
They stayed put in the sink.
Wonka frowned. This time he looked at the potatoes which needed peeling for his lunch and he tried another magic word. “
Honey-Howatsa!” he cried, waving his hands in an impresive mystical fashion... “Potatoes be peeled.”
But they didn’t move either. There they stayed, dark and brown, completely unpeeled.
The wizard was quite upset. He’d always been such a clever wizard, and his magic had never let him down before.
He wished he could talk with his wizard friends , but none were online and they all lived such a long way off.
Wizards Gary, Joey, Phoenix, and the enchantresses Melissa and Trish, all lived several miles away.
And the Grand wizards Michael, Glen, Andreas and Leo the ‘Fresh Prince
of Trance’, all lived overseas, and even powerful wizards need a really
good reason to cross water.
Now if Wonka’s magic had been working, he could have said “I wish to be
at Enchantress Melissa’s door!” And he would have been there. Or even “I
wish all my wizard friends were here.” But it was no use trying that at
the moment, so he went for a walk in the park instead, hoping that the
fresh air and exercise would make him feel better.
Wizard Wonka was just walking underneath a tree, when he heard a voice from thin air.
“Hello Wizard Wonka you do look down in the dumps.”
Wizard Wonka was quite startled as he couldn’t see where the voice was
coming from. Then looking up, Wonka saw little Bobby Brown, peering down
from the tree.
“What’s wrong ?” asked Bobby climbing down and landing at Wonka’s feet.
Bobby was a friendly little boy, and Wonka was glad to have someone to
tell his troubles to.
“My Magic’s gone, Bobby,” he said "I'm in a funk. I can’t work any spells at all.”
“That’s only because you think you can’t.” Bobby wagged a finger at him.
“I didn’t think I could climb that tree just now, but then I remembered
that my mum said you can do anything you like, if you really put your
mind to it. So up I went, and climbed it jolly well. Could you climb
that tree Wonka?”
“No I couldn’t .” He said, shaking his head.
“Well I bet
you could.” said Bobby. “Come on,
I’ll show you how.”
So under Bobby's guidance, the wizard began to climb . Soon Wizard Wonka
was leaning out of the tree smiling, his tall hat knocked sideways.
“
I did it!” He Beamed.
“Of course you did, “ said Bobby. “Now come down and try riding my bike.”
“Oh I can’t do that, “ said Wonka and he got on it and promptly fell off.
“
Yes you can, come on, have another go.” Bobby held the bike and
steadied him, walking alongside as Wonka pedalled. Suddenly Wonka was
off, all round the park,
thoroughly enjoying himself.
When he got back, Bobby said, "I bet you can’t kick my ball as far as I can.”
I jolly well can said the wizard, who was
growing more and more confident by the minute.
So they both took turns kicking the ball, and Wonka’s kick was even better than Bobby's.
“You’re all right now, Wizard Wonka, “ said Bobby. “You’ve got your confidence back.”
“I do believe you are right.” agreed the wizard. “Thank you very much Bobby.”
Then off he went home with a spring in his step, to see to the jobs in
the kitchen. As he got inside the front door, he called out “
Abra-Cadabra, I wish the washing up done.”
He skipped into the kitchen and was delighted to see a pile of clean dry cups and plates and saucers on the table.
At the far end of the kitchen preparing lunch, were all of his wizard friends.
“I think you made a wish to see us,“ said Melissa the Enchantress. “So
we came, and I did your washing up while I was waiting for you coming
back.”
“That’s really
magic!” said Wonka. And all the wizards had a good old
laugh about that!
