These are a part of the Interspercial technique. Marking commands or suggestions as separate from the sentence with either a tonal shift or maybe by pausing before and after the command or with a gesture or movement etc… This causes a pattern that the unconscious mind picks up on and responds to.
‘Some people find they…relax deeply…in the shower other people find they…drift into a dreamy state…when they are in the bath’
‘I don’t know whether...you will discover...that...you relax deeply...as you listen to my voice...or whether ...you will discover...that...you become more fully absorbed in your internal experience with each out breath...’
The advantage of embedded commands is that when you know a purpose or outcome you can hold an ordinary conversation and whenever you say words that are associated with achieving that outcome you can mark them out in some way.
You can practice embedded commands in every day situations by picking an outcome (like getting the person to scratch) and then during the conversation mark out any words or phrases associated with scratching
'Talking about language pattern, we've barely scratched the surface but I'm sure you're itching to try out these techniques and skills and wondering whether anyone will find a way to wriggle out of what it is you're doing with them...but it doesn't matter what they try as long as you continue to get movement and work on responding to what they say and do, and if they seem resistant or awkward you can just knit the different patterns together to create something unique of your own...'
